I have an additional question. I did know that you could get over the air HDTV signal - when we got my son his TV, that's what we did to test his out before we gave it to him. So let's say you've got the antenna and you also have your cable hooked up. Do you have to manually switch your TV from cable to air via something like an A/B switch or is there something you can do to your remote so it knows....

The TV has multiple inputs....you just change the input with the remote and go from the cable to antenna input.

why would you have both hooked up anyway? No need for an antenna if you have cable hooked into it.

If she doesn't get cable's HD package, but wants to see local channels in HD.

you see them in HD even without the HD package. If you just have cable, any cable service at all, you get local channels in HD. Before I got the digital box, I had CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, WAXN, MYTV12, The CW, and UNCHD, in high definition. They are not legally allowed to scramble local high definition signals.

CBS is like channel 220-220 in high definition if you don't have the cable box. I don't really remember any of the others
