Compare him to Peppers who is much better against the run and still has 42 tackles. So much for that theory.

Scouting Report
Assets: Outstanding speed rusher. Explodes at the snap and beats most blockers to the edge. Has a spin move and other refined moves to the quarterback. A sound tackler who pursues well and can close on the ball carrier. Strong and disciplined enough to do the job against the run.

Flaws: Can be forced outside and away from the play. Doesn't always hold the point of attack.

Inherent contradiction. If you can be forced outside and doesn't hold the point of attack then you aren't good against the run. Disciplined means you stay in your lane and maintain your position. It sounds like it should read that he is strong and can make the tackle if he is close enough to do so. Unfortunately he is rarely where he needs to be.LOL

Here is another article which says he is poor against the run. Funny how people see the same thing and evaluate it very different.

Well, in that entire scouting report, they mention his run D skills in one small sentence. Not sure I would stake my life on that guy knowing much about Freeney versus the run.

But you have to keep in mind that his tackles maybe low compared to other guys, but this is because he is drawing double teams most of the time. Teams will have their OL work their first block, then slide over and double team Freeny. Once Freeny is pushed up field, the runner can get by in the hole created.
Exactly the point I was trying to make about his run d prowess maybe not showing up int he stats. Kinda like Sed Ellis for the Saints. He's crucial to our run D.

Is that why he didn't hardly play in the second half and was noticeably limping on the field... because it was a farce? OK...

I suspect he was hurt pretty bad... didn't practice all week to let it heal, took some pain killers prior to the game and did the best he could with it... but by the second half the medicine was wearing off and it was hurting and stiff.

I posted my opinion right after the second quarter. Painkillers can't help stability issues with a torn ligament.
