Both Lucas and Gamble have done this before, but it doesn't happen much. Gamble and Lucas also have a certain number of times in a game when they know the route the WR is going to run and they jump the route. Sometimes they knock the ball away, miss they ball, the ball is thrown away, or they get an INT. The problem this year is that our secondary has been dropping INTs. I'm almost certain that the Panther secondary will have at least 2 opportunities to make an INT in the Arizona game. If they catch the INTs I think we will win, if they don't we might be in trouble.
You're def on point but I think what everyone wants to see is them mix it up just a lil more. Maybe loosen up a bit once in a while and bring in a coverage LB (if we have one) but not to the point where shifting is risky. Changing just enough to show diff looks to the QB would be a world of diff. The whole NFL knows who our Def is. The whole Def secondary doesn't have to cover the whole field ALL the time.

We still play the scheme as if our front 4 are dominant, which they aren't.
The success of teams with the short pass (which has been present for several years) drives me nuts.
This year we've won more than we've lost, but that's not been true the majority of the time.

Sometimes I say, "what's the difference between giving up 1 25-yard pass and giving up 5 5-yard passes? They end up the same anyways, it only results in more plays for the defense, which in turn, tires them out."

Our CBs are often lined up past the 5 yard contact cushion so bumping receivers off their routes is not an option. Even the most physical corners would have trouble in this scheme, and considering both starters are at least decent at bumping receivers off routes, that's essentially what this defense is designed to do. IMO for a team that wants to be physical like we do, it's too finesse of a scheme, and it's not like they execute it well. We've given up point totals of 31, 34, 10, 23, 31, 45, and 22 points the last 7 games. It's not the defense I'd run, but that's neither here nor there.

We don't have safeties to a) blitz often, b) jam at the line, or c) play a lock down man style D.

Sorry, its not the corners, it's the safeties.

I never thought about it that way. Good point. While Godfry is playing absolutly terrific for a strating rookie, he still has a bit to learn. Harris can be good, but he is more of a hard hitter. I don't know why they don't use Harris on more blitzes. Imagine him knocking the hell outta Warner this weekend. That would be nice.

Makes up for it with his intelligence and decision making. A better quality IMO.

Thats why we can't afford to play physical on the WR's.

Neither of our S's can cover well. Usually you have a FS and a SS, and while both need to be able to cover, the FS is normally the smaller better cover S.

We need to be able to have Marshall out there most of the game, and hope that he matches up well with Breaston.
