And Vilma has an I in his name, and the roman numeral for 1 is I. And since we basically got a 1st rounder for Jenks, we basically got Vilma too!

We have been shopping Jenkins since likely before his house went on the market. And surely the 1 million dollar bonus wasn't a large factor although it was a factor. I am sure that we determined to get rid of him and this the most that we could get.

It isn't like Jenkins even led the team in tackles last year and most folks admit the pro-bowl selection in 2006 was likely a gimme. So we have a guy who was a pro-bowler 5 years ago who is big and athletic but often disappears at times who is a complainer and malcontent.

Forget that this draft is very deep in runnng backs and OT and DEs, forget that Lewis is a former 1st rounder who led the team in sacks last year and is more capable than Jenkins of playing all three downs. Forget that the line last year produced few if any sacks and sucked. It was all Peppers fault and Jenkins was awesome.

I like Jenkin's size and athleticism but in the end, he was a constant problem. Last year we picked up Harris for a fifth. Maybe we are going to pick up someone this year in a trade. Who knows. But at least you can wait to bitch until we find out what the picks bring us before deciding it was a terrible move.
DTs never lead their team in tackles. He made the 2006 Pro Bowl based upon his stellar play in previous seasons when he was healthy. That said, nobody said the Pro Bowl was a good indicator of production.

Jenkins is a superior player to Lewis. One's an every down player, the other is a situational pass rusher who failed in St. Louis. Jenkins was also our best D-lineman last year.

Whether it was a terrible move or not remains to be seen. I'll hold judgement until I see what we do with the picks.

i am pretty impartial on this. i would have liked to keep him, but if he didnt want to be here, let him go. yeah, he made the pro bowl in '06, but that was a surprise to everyone and truth be told he didnt deserve that spot, but come on...getting angry b/c we gave away an "all pro" player is a bit of a stretch. Jenkins hasn't been a dominating player since '03. we got another pick in the top 70 for a unmotivated, overweight, (former??) alcoholic DT.

we obv weren't getting their 1st round pick, and Jenkins is not worth the 36th overall pick. would have loved to see it work out, but i'll take it.

Take it easy folks. He hasnt made much of an impact in a while and is obviously unhappy. There are great players in the 3rd and 5th rounds that will cost a lot less.

Not a huge fan of the trade, but those picks could come in handy if we want to trade up. I don't think we can really judge it until we see what we do with them.

Let's be honest. After which game over the last two seasons have we come on this board praising the DL?

This past season, our DLine played probably like a bottom 5 squad. One of the most underachieving groups in the league. Overpaid was a normal adjective used after each game. This is not 2003. It was time to blow it up.

Kris made headlines the last couple of years by staying away from off season workouts and then calling out his teammates publicly. The Panthers, whether he was right or not, do not put up with that. Everyone knew he was going and if a 3rd and a 5th was all that was offered, then we had to take it. It's not like someone was offering a lot more and we refused. Just think what a circus it would have been to have brought him back.

you have to remember...the jets 3rd rounder is the 4th pick. trow in the 5th rounder also....its a 2 rounder we got for jenkins. you have to look at the overall picture. smart thinking guys. so really, we have a 1st rounder, and 2 in the 2nd round and another in the 3rd.

either way you look at it, we will be getting good players. Jenkins would have been too expensive to keep anyways, not to mention all the distractions every off season.

so GOOD JOB HURNEY, let the off season continue

No, it's not a 2nd rounder. It's an early 3rd. It still means we may not be getting the players we're targetting.

I will trade them Solorca for a 7th round pick in 2087

Yeah, because big run stuffing defensive tackles generally lead the team in tackles. And maybe I'm missing something but he played better than anyone else on the defensive line last year, drew most of the double teams and always was giving effort. Just because he actually spoke up around here when he felt like his teammates weren't trying makes him a complainer? And he's a malcontent because the front office has been shopping him around for two years? Man, stop drinking the kool-aid!

The picks could work out to be ok, but that's not my issue. My issue is that we could have gotten MORE for him, based upon the Vikings getting a 2nd rounder for another player who wasn't in Jenkins' league. And I believe it's been pointed out that the Raiders have just screwed up the market even more for defensive tackles, so we may not even save that much money.

I meant to say that jenkins didn't lead the front four in tackles, not the whole team. And yes DTs often lead the defensive line in tackles. But last year it was Kemo not Jenkins.

And I would agree that Jenkins is larger and more athletic than Lewis. But I would like to see Lewis get more playing time before I decide how good he is.

Lewis is a former first rounder? I guess this definitely means he has more value than Jenkins because he's a former second rounder. See above post. I meant that jenkins didn't lead the defensive line in tackles, not the team. And Jenkins has always been a complainer and malcontent not just last year. Why do you think they shopped him before this year.

As for Lewis, I don't know what his potential is, we will see. Why didn't he start before? Because Jenkins was better against the run. Why did Lewis play almost all third downs? Because he is a better pass rusher. What were we missing last year???? A better pass rush!!! As for saying he sucks because St Louis didn't want him, I guess Jenkins sucks because we gave him up for only a third and fifth round pick, if you use that kind of logic.
And who said Peppers had a good year? I just think all players underperformed including Jenkins. So someone had to go and Jenkins was the logical one. I just think putting everything on Peppers and giving everyone else a pass makes no sense.

And as fpr deciding what we should have gotten for him, how the heck do you know anything about that? Were you in on the negotiations. Saying we should have gotten this because someone got that is like the argument, if this team beat this team, and we beat them, then we should kill this other team. Things don't work that way except in Madden.
