Has everyone forgotten the 2004 and 2005 seasons? The D-line performed very well without Jenkins. In fact, one could argue that they performed much better during those two seasons than they did the past two.
I think a lot of you are putting way too much stock into what Jenkins was, not what he is. The Panthers simply did what they had to do to get something in return for him. Without a trade, he would have simply left via free agency. History has shown that the Panthers can get the job done on DL without him. |

I'm cautiously optimistic about this...Softli is gone, and it appears that he may have been the one behind a lot of the bad draft intel. Also, doesn't anyone else think we might use their third round pick for ourselves and possibly use our own in an effort to trade up in the first or second round? The draft is rich at most of the positions we need help at.

I'm glad we got what we got. I don't think a high third is anything to shrug at. I just wonder if we could have got more last year.

Things to understand: Trade value doesn't just depend on how good a player is. Trade value depends on years left on a contract. Jenkins had one year left, meaning whoever gets him is either going to have to let him go next year or pay giant $$$. If we'd been doing this two years ago (if he hadn't been coming off an injury) we'd have gotten a lot more. Cap room matters. You can only get in a trade what the market will pay. Some of y'all are acting like we could have gotten a first rounder if we'd only talked to another team. The Jets made the highest offcer. |

That's because there was a year less on the contract. He's only got one year left. That's the important thing to remember, that the years left on the contract affect the value of a player in a trade. Next year, we would have gotten zero, because he would have been a free agent. What's more valuable, to trade for a player you get for four years, or for a player you get for one year? (like Jenkins) That's why teams weren't willing to offer as much. Edit: Or he had two years left. Either way, it's the same situation, that the less years on a contract, the less value. The issue isn't whether he will be better than Jenkins but will be fill the spot at roughly a quarter of the price and bring a better pass rush. That of course assumes we don't find someone else in free agency or the draft to fill his shoes. Jenkins didn't lead the team in any category last year. He was hardly that good. The excuse is that he was doubled alot of the time. So was Peppers in 2006 and he got 13 sacks. Jenkins was decent on a terrible line last year. Sorry if I don't think that was all that great. If the FO thought he was irreplaceable, he would still be here. But I am sure you know more than they do. They shopped him because his down side was greater than his upside and they could at least get something for him now. He was a great player but is a shell of him former self. Watch him be mediocre for the Jets after he commands a 7 or 8 million dollar a year contract. The FO beleives we need to get in new blood and change the defensive line and after their performance last year I agree. Jenkins obviously wasn't as good as you think or we would have gotten a better deal then we did. yeah, I forgot, you could have negotiated a better deal. Again all that logic works in Madden but not in real life. |

an extra third and we get the fifth back (that we gave up to the Bears for Harris). I'll take it.
