A source told ESPN.com that All-Star center Eric Staal has signed a seven-year contract extension with Carolina worth between $56 million and $60 million. The new deal will not kick in until the 2009-10 season.

Staal is worth $57.75 million and will last through 2015-16. This is great for the team.

I was slow to jump on the Staal bandwagon, and I still don't believe he's as talented as Crosby or Ovechkin, but he's got heart.

Best money this team has ever spent. Jordan is a free agent next year and pittsburgh dosent have the cap space to pay him what he wants. Wouldnt it be nice to see the Staal brother together with the Canes?
