Seems to be that they don't seem to jump the routes, opting to play it safe against the deep routes and let the other team get a chance to catch the ball..
IMO our secondary better be watching film during most of their time off this week so they can understand which targets Warner pops the ball out to when he see's pressure coming..that way we can jump those routes..either allowing for interceptions, or making warner hesitant to throw them and giving more time for the pressure to get there... |

The reason is that they play alot of zone and want to keep everything in front of them. That is Trgo's scheme. This gives up yards, but we have won consistently with it.
Remember guys, we played the best offenses in the league at the end of the season....and went 4-1.

IDK about anyone else, but I think this soft zone coverage them seem to play on almost every down is killing us. Like you said, Warner will carve the secondary up like a roast if they a) don't get to Warner and either sack him or at least force him to throw early, or b) play this ridiculous zone D against fitzgerald and boldin and allow them to get potentially piviotal third downs. The D needs to be on its heels this week.

Thats it to a tee. We play safe zones and when we do play man our CBs go into prevent. IMO I dont like it but it dose cover up our weakness of our Safety's. Both cant cover a lick but can deliver a good hit. Imo Godfrey will be alot better next year but Harris is just bad at it.

It worked last time. We gave up yards but end the end Warrner gave up the pick and it cost them the game.

These safe zones have been given up a fair amount of points lately..they don't seem to work against good offenses...hoping we have some new wrinkles in the D or we will have to rely on the Offense to carry us to the Super Bowl(who would have thought that)

The Panthers are basically giving up the 5 yard pass in order to try and prevent bigger plays. People complain about our corners being too far away from WRs, but we don't have shutdown corners. There is an exception, if Lucas or Gamble decides that the WR they are playing is slow, then they can ask Trgo to let them play him tight, and even with no safety help. Both Lucas and Gamble have done this before, but it doesn't happen much. Gamble and Lucas also have a certain number of times in a game when they know the route the WR is going to run and they jump the route. Sometimes they knock the ball away, miss they ball, the ball is thrown away, or they get an INT. The problem this year is that our secondary has been dropping INTs. I'm almost certain that the Panther secondary will have at least 2 opportunities to make an INT in the Arizona game. If they catch the INTs I think we will win, if they don't we might be in trouble.

This is just my personal opinion, but I would rather play the attacking style of defense such as the Ravens, Eagles, and Steelers.
It really gets lame watching all that soft zone, it's true that we have been winning, but we are winning in spite of our defense. We still play the scheme as if our front 4 are dominant, which they aren't. |
