Default Regarding Matt Moore

My buddy the Cowboy fan was extremely sad to lose him. He watched him all preseason and really thought he had potential for the future.

On the downside, he is now playing for a team whose coaching staff doesn't put much stock in developing young QBs

As to the calls for him to start ahead of Carr based on a single drive, and understanding that Carr has only played a few games in this offense...

Single drive? More like single throw, followed by an extremely poor one.

bleh

He is on the wrong team if he is looking for development.

Prolly the main reason I'd like to see him start. He isn't going to get a lot of coaching here so experience would do him well. Throw him in and see what he's got. I'd bet he's a better QB by season's end than twinkle-toes will be.

I would like to see us keep him and see him battle Basanez for the 3rd or 2nd spot depending on how this season goes.

I'm not really that high on Basanez

I'm probably higher on Basanez than you are, but I agree with the idea.

Just out of curiosity, who are all these talented young QB's that the Panthers failed to develop? It seems to me that you have to have something to work with in the first place, in order to develop it. Jake Delhomme and Chris Weinke were already in their late 20's by the time Fox got here, so they were already pretty much as developed as they were going to get. What other young QB's have been brought in that actually had some talent to work with? IMO, Matt Moore will be the first one, if that one drive of his wasn't just an aberration. We'll see what happens.

Maybe not, if Davidson stays around.

It isn't as much that they've failed to develop anyone particularly talented. It's more that they don't care to make the effort because it's easier to just go after a mid-level free agent.

That Fox prefers this approach has been written about before. Not my preferred approach, but it has it's advantages and it's definitely not unique to Fox or the Panthers.

Not sure what it is about the Panthers MC. We have never developed a young QB into a starter other than maybe Collins. The Starter has pretty much always been a lock (Other than in Delhomme's case) and the lesser spots have been a revolving door.

You then look at teams like Dallas, SF, Seattle, and others and realize we have never been really good at developing young talant at that position. We seem to always rely on FA's. I'd like to see a home grown hero.

Yeah, that was kind of the same point I was trying to make in my own little smartass way. It's not that they can't develop QB's, they just don't try. I really do believe that Moore will be the first legitimate young talent we've had here though. I don't care if he only had one drive, it took balls to do what he did in his very first NFL game and alot of people have liked what he did in the pre season with Dallas and in college...your friend isn't the only one. FWIW, Mark Schlereth just said on NFL Live that he believed Moore will be starting before the season is over because Carr has consistantly shown that he's not an NFL QB.
