Panthers agreed to terms with WR D.J. Hackett on a two-year, $3.5 million contract, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan.

While Hackett has dealt with injuries, he's been highly productive when healthy and is only 26. In Carolina, he becomes the top candidate to start opposite Steve Smith with Muhsin Muhammad likely working from the slot. Dwayne Jarrett will compete with Ryne Robinson to be the fourth receiver. Hackett has vertical and red-zone ability and should draw some attention away from Smith. His addition is good news for all Panthers skill players besides Jarrett. Expect solid WR3/4 numbers if Hackett starts.

HACKETT LANDS IN CAROLINA

The Carolina Panthers continue to load up on pass catchers who might benefit from all the attention that Steve Smith receives.

After bringing back Muhsin Muhammad, the team has now added D.J. Hackett, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.

Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network and Adam Caplan of Scout.com, Hackett will sign a two-year, $3.5 million deal with the Panthers.

Hackett has shown flashes of ability during his NFL career, but that potential wasn’t enough to get a team to open its wallet wider than $1.75 million per year.

Other teams interested in Hackett were the Seahawks, the Redskins, and the Buccaneers.

The Panthers also have Dwayne Jarrett, a second-round pick in 2007, and Travis Taylor, a well-traveled first-round pick of the Ravens in 2000.

To be clear, it's only "agreed to terms" at this point. It's not official until the ink is dry.

God im happy now we might have a chance this year after we get the dline fixed.And we might be able to keep up with them other teams like the cowgirls and packers be 1 of those high scoring teams

WOW. I think we are going to have one of the best WR core in the league( top 2-3). Our offense is going to be so much better!!!
