I know I haven't posted here for a while, but when I ventured over here to see what the reaction was like from the Duke-Carolina game last night, I just found the same old crap.
You know, last night was a chance for Carolina fans to show some class in victory. Again, you guys on this board made complete @$$es of yourselves. It seems like most of you hate Duke more than love Carolina. I realize it's a rivalry, but the way you guys act makes Carolina just look bad. You couldn't say "YESSS, Carolina won, but good game, Duke." It was just "f*ck dook," "JJ's a fag," "Dook fans should all die and burn in hell," and the same tired old stuff about how bad Redick's poetry is. You know, whenever Duke gets a big victory over Carolina, we'll talk about it and cheer, but we won't be a bunch of classless douches. How many of you even WENT to Carolina? I'm sure at least some of you did, but from what I've seen in my time as a Duke fan, most of the Carolina students and alums are a classy bunch of folks, even when they're playing Duke. Last night, I was out in K-ville, and a fight about broke out between a Dukie and a UNC fan...I had a Carolina fan come up to me and apologize personally for that, since he didn't want the Dukies thinking Carolina fans and students weren't a bunch of belligerent drunks. I wonder why more Carolina fans can't be like that. Hate Duke all you want, it's a rivalry (of course, I hate Carolina with a passion), but win with class. And I'm sick of you calling us a bunch of private-school rich preps. How much do you actually know about Duke? My parents both have blue-collar jobs - I certainly didn't get in based on how much money I have. Duke covers anyone who is accepted but can't pay, not everyone here is a "rich prep." I know Carolina is a great school (it's even harder to get in that Duke if you're out of state), and you'll never hear me trash their student body like you guys do to Duke all the time. You can hate our teams, but when you start trashing our school, it gets very personal. Go to ESPN.com and read Gene Wojo's article about why he doesn't hate Duke anymore if you want a taste of what I'm talking about. By the way, JJ Redick has all the respect in the world for Carolina's program - he made a nice address to everyone at Cameron after the game last night, ESPN didn't show it - and all you guys do is talk about how much of a "fag" he is. That's really, really low. I hardly ever see Duke fans act like d!cks of this caliber - sure, there are a few bad apples - but by in large, about the worst we say are the "Go to hell, Carolina" chants. I never see our fans spew the kind of garbage UNC fans say all the time. Bottom line: GROW THE HELL UP. YOU ARE EMBARASSING CAROLINA AND MAKING YOURSELVES LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF IDIOTIC 12-YEAR OLD TOOLS. Sincerest apologizes to any Carolina fans who have a brain and an ounce of class. |

for you sir to sit there and defend every single Dookie on the face of this earth is atrocious. Some Duke fans are just as pathtic and petty as some Carolina fans. I know this and you know this. We all have short term memories, some people a hell of a lot shorter than others. This is Carolina/Duke though, it doesn't get any bigger than this. So of course we all sit here and talk shit, we all sit here and cheer our teams, we all sit her and jump up with emotions after one of the two teams win. Some take it a little too far, like with "JJ is a fag." I guess you are too young to remember when Dante Calabria, had been called that plus so much more. Also, Cherokee Parks and Christian Leattner getting trashed 10 times more than JJ will ever be the rest of his life. So to call people 12 year old kids is the most ludicris thing I have ever heard. I have the upmost respect for the program, but HATE everything else that comes out of Durham. Trust me what this Carolina team done to the UNBEATABLE Duke team is priceless. The only people that gave UNC a chance in hell were a few Duke fans on this board, and true Carolina fans thought they would have a chance, but let's be honest here. I really thought Duke could have taken that game, it's just the fact that JJ is god, and nobody else wants to step up when they are needed. There is just a lack of leadership on that team.....BOTTOM LINE!!!

I don't think this thread was really needed. For the most part, the Carolina fans on here are fine. There are a few that make comments, but I don't really think that they think I should die for being a Duke fan.
With a few exceptions, I like most of the Carolina fans on here. The fact is, I kind of think the Cameron Crazies suck too...and I'm a Duke fan. I watched the replay of the Cameron Crazy-Cam last night, and it proved to me that the fans are more interested in being a "crazy" than they actually are with the team. The entire game, it seemed like they are going through the motions and following a script. It makes for a good atmosphere and it looks good on tv, but I don't really consider them to be great fans. There are a ton of good Duke fans, but the "crazies" kind of suck.

and another thing it was said that a lot of Carolina fans didn't go to UNC, yes that is very true. Don't sit and say that a lot of Duke fans went to Duke, because you are living in a shell if you believe that. UNC has over 25,000 students. I am not sure how many students are enrolled at Duke, but it can't be as much as Carolina. So, all these Duke fans across the nation couldn't have been a student at Duke. Also, even in the state of Carolina the only fans are either in Durham or right around that area, because of the state is eith UNC or NCST fans. I see that more when traveling across the state.

I love UNC!!! The biggest thing I hate about dook is that the media hypes them beyond all believe. Coach K just seems like a genuine slimeball and crybaby and most of his players take after him (in the crybaby part). I honestly wouldn't mind JJ if he didn't play for dook. The guy works very hard on the court, but he's just a friggin crybaby and I think that comes from K.
With that said - PHUCK DOOK!!! Most telling stat: Dook students from NC: 14% UNC students from NC: 82% Dook bball players from NC: 6% UNC bball players from NC: 40% |

I didn't like JJ when he played at Cave Spring High School, and I hate him now that he is at Duke.

Caniac posted this on the wrong website i think. I don't believe I've ever said that Dook sucks. I have said I don't believe they are a top 5 team, top 10 maybe...but not top 5. I also don't think I've ever said Redick was a fag, the Dook admins at thedevilsden.com, that's another story.

Tweeder -
I believe I acknowledged most of your points in my first post. I did not defend every Duke fan out there, I said that there are jerk Duke fans as well. My point is that out of those people that live in NC and didn't go to either Carolina or Duke, there are far more Carolina fans than Duke fans. I didn't say that there weren't a ton of Duke fans that didn't go to Duke, but there are FAR more Carolina fans that didn't go to Carolina. I don't know where "all those Duke fans" you refer to are; I was under the impression most of the nation hated us because we were "rich preps." And I know I wouldn't have been spewing out a bunch of crap had Duke won - I would have said something, but nothing like the Redick comments that have been made or that all Carolina fans were sub-human or anything like that. I'm not a homer and never said that Duke was "unbeatable," I was skeptical of our #1 ranking since Day One, since I never thought we were that good, considering the player additions and subtractions from last year. I've never said that JJ was a god - I said myself a few weeks ago how ESPN has been obsessed with JJ Redick, as they have been with Mike Vick for the past couple of football seasons. And if you think all the Carolina fans on this board are totally civil, I don't know where you've been - I can show you quite a few choice examples of some of the garbage your Carolina fans have been saying on this board (everyone attacked me, but no one told the guy above who said F UCK YOU DOOKIES! above to shut up...hmm). And yeah, I'm sure K is a "genuine slimeball" by sticking with Duke back before we got good, when everyone wanted him fired, and all the charitable stuff he's done. solorca - About the Crazies, I have to agree to a certain extent. There are a lot of us here who really love the Duke team and really want us to win, but there are a lot of others that do just see the basketball games as a social event. Only 12% or so of Duke undergrads are from North Carolina - they haven't been around the rivalry their entire life, so it wouldn't be as big a deal to them. It's sad, but that's reality here. That being said, on the "Cameron Crazy Cam" last night, you might have gotten a skewed view of what we usually do - the section where the Crazies stand can hold about 1200, but for the game last night, they fit in several hundred more, myself included - we had to stand sideways, there was literally not an inch of space to move around, so a lot of us didn't bother with all the cheers and just watched the game because of the lack of space. One more thing, Tweeder - don't call what I say "doltish ramblings." I stand by what I said. If you still believe all the Carolina fans on this board have behaved well, you need to take a closer look at the Tar Heel basketball threads, especially the one about the game last night. A few people were all right, but most of what I saw was a bunch of juvenile garbage. You should be telling those people to tone it down instead of attacking me, they'd probably listen to you more, as you're a Carolina fan. |

Caniac...you're much too young to let stuff like this bother you. If it does, then maybe watching sports just isn't your thing. Dook-Carolina is a rivalry, has been for decades, and will continue to be one. Rivalries get heated, fans go overboard sometimes...that's just the way it is.

You're probably right. Personally, if it were just based on fan reactions, I'd rather lose to Carolina than, say, Maryland (I think we all know why).
The reason I made the post is because I WANT to like Carolina fans, even if I do hate the team. Back in Rowan County (where I'm from), the Duke fans are very few and far between, and most of the people I knew, especially the Carolina fans, still had the old Duke "elitist" stereotypes in mind - I just got tired of it. It just seems to me that people trash Duke for things that are unfounded or are just myths. It actually isn't as big a deal to me as I've made it seem - Dukies are Dukies, and Carolina fans are Carolina fans, of course I know that. I just wish we could be a little more civil to each other, regardless of what side you're on. Last edited by CaniacPanther : 03-05-2006 at 06:37 PM. |

I've got friends that are Dook fans, and I give it to them much worse than I give it to the guys on here. But it's all in fun. The key is to not take anything personal. Life's too short to dwell on petty stuff, just let it roll.
