I never really liked the first Batman. Is that not allowed? Everytime I see that movie, I see Jack Nicholson, not the joker.

Batman Returns was better IMO.

Maybe you're the homer, did you think about that? Were you one of those legions squalling 'They'll never replace Nicholson'?

I wasn't. I'm glad someone finally stepped up to the plate and nailed the Joker. And I'm talking about Christopher Nolan, not Heath Ledger.

Course its not Nicholson's fault that Tim Burton is a sissy douche.

Nope, never was one who said they'll never replace Nicholson. Any role can be done well, when the right actor is found, and they embrace the role. The similarities between the two are quite apparent...which is why I find it so surprising that you show so much distaste for Jack's performance. While I enjoyed the first Batman, it wasn't until Batman Begins that I felt it was being truly represented how it should be. So I think you have to give some credit to the directors, producers, and the writers along with Heath's commitment to research, and throwing himself into the role.

I just always thought Jack's performance was overrated, and I grew tired of 'they'll never replace Nicholson as the Joker' 10 years ago. I don't blame Jack as much as I blame Tim Burton, but the recent fits thrown by Nicholson for not being offered the part of the Joker in Nolan's version, on top of him coming out and saying 'I told Heath Ledger not to take that part because it would kill him' after Heath was dead has really turned me sour on the old bastard.

But for the record, one of the finest performances ever in a thriller was Nicholson in The Shining.

I just think he was coasting by that point in his career, and I never really saw the Joker. Just Jack Nicholson pretending to be the Joker, and everyone that's never picked up a Batman comic in their lives and only know about the guy from that cheesy TV show ate it up.

Oh, and his one liners like 'Wait til they get a load of me' and 'Where does he get those wonderful toys' sucked too.

I never heard of those comments being made by Jack. Nor do I give a damn if he did say them, cause I'm not going to let something distastefully said out of jealousy change my opinion on his performance. I didn't feel he was coasting. While I was never the Batman comic collector, I have read more batman comics than I care to count.

As your your distaste of the one liners, I suggest you blame the writers.

I did say I blamed Burton more than Nicholson. He did well enough with what he was given.

Watched it tonight. It was pretty good but I'd still like to see it in the theater. The opening scene was pretty obvious. About the only thing I didn't like about the Joker was how, early on, he kept stopping/starting his words erratically. Just a bit annoying....other than that, great job.

Yeah, I left The Dark Knight with a rare feeling of closure and fulfillment.

Nolan is one of the best closers in Hollywood atm, imho.
