Who? Yeah, that was my initial reaction before reading up on him.
![]() Beason was one of those guys who did everything in High School. He went to miami as a fullback, but quickly moved to defense, where he played all linebacker spots and safety, a la Peter Boulware. He's shoot up the draft boards due to his good combo results and great interviews. He's intelligent, has great football instincts, and is a natural leader on the field. You can actually seem him trying to break up "The Brawl," unlike other team mates who were reaching for their guns. The only knock on him is his size. He's supposedly about two inches two short to play linebacker, but that didn't stop him from leading the team in tackles his last year, despite missing two games. One of his biggest strengths is coverage. I know, as a Panther fan, you read a linebacker excelling in coverage and wonder, "What's that like?" Beason's been described by MANY scouts as the flat out best football player in the draft, and I think that's important. People put so much emphasis on forty times and reps, they forget that sometimes you just need a guy that wants to play and knows what he's doing out there. Not to say that he doesn't have either, but his best asset may be unmeasurable. This is a weird draft. Scouts are terrified because there isn't a lot of bonafide first round talent. Trading down is going to be difficult. There will be a lot of head scratching next Saturday. If Willis is gone, and with Nelson sliding as badly as he is, I think we should just bite the bullet and take Beason. He can play all linebacker positions and safety and will be an immediate impact player wherever he plays. |

There is a better than good chance that Beason will be there in the second when we pick so no to him in the first round but a good prospect for in the second if he's still there.

I'd agree with you, but this draft is funny. Pretty much every player the Panthers are looking at past Willis has the ability to slide to the second round.
Yeah, that includes Nelson, Olsen, and Ginn. 14 is a pretty miserable position to draft, and anyone we take is going to be considered a slight reach. You can say that though about every team picking after Minnesota. |

That is why I think we go DE in the first. No doubt if Anderson slips. And Carriker would be a solid pick that has consistantly been and the top 20 and as of now doesn't seem likely to fall.

Yeah I dont think we should take him at 14...personally I think that we should try as hard as possible to trade down unless Jamaal Anderson, pat willis, or Landry is there...there is a good chance that Beason will be there in the second. I say we shouldnt address LB with our first unless its with willis.

i wouldn't mind getting this guy. esp since he could play multiple positions, and that's the kind of lb we need. i still think we'll be better off getting buster or HB in the 3rd though. better value.

I agree!!! ![]() That right there my friends is the best SAFETY in this draft. Landry is much overrated. As long as he is football smarts, I dont care how dumb he really is. |

![]() Beason is just as much a "reach" as Nelson at 14 so in that case I would take Beason any day. Beason is a clever young guy he can play multiple positions and he have a lot of experience. Nelson have very little experince can only play one position and is dumb as hell. |
