Some Houston residents are upset after Korans were left on the doorsteps of hundreds of homes in their neighborhood as part of a campaign to educate people about Islam.
Residents of Braes Timbers in southwest Houston began finding the holy books two weeks ago, MyFOXHouston.com reported. The Korans came with a note saying they had been left by the Book of Signs Foundation, which claims to have distributed 30,000 free copies of the texts to residents throughout the city. "If we went into a Muslim country and left a Bible, we would be in prison and then decapitated a few years later," Sue Ann Pieri, a resident who chose not to destroy the book, as other neighbors did, told MyFOXHouston.com. The foundation, which left the books on doormats or hanging from doorknobs, said in a note accompanying the Koran that "rather than judging Islam and Muslims by the actions of a few, we want our fellow citizens to judge us by the book that influences and guides the lives of over 1 billion Muslims." Tarick Hussein, the president of Houston's Council on American-Islamic Relations, told the station he believes the Book of Signs Foundation wants to educate non-Muslims about the religion. He told MyFOXHouston.com: "This is a very peaceful way of conveying a message." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,375061,00.html Video... http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/My...1&locale=EN-US |

Personally, I could care less if some left a Koran at my door. Don't see what the big deal is. Just throw it away if you don't want it.
But wouldn't laying the Koran on the steps be a violation of how the Koran should be treated. Seems like they wouldn't want to put it on the floor were people walked. |

Thats not to say giving a bum $5 to buy beer is a great idea, but if he asks for $5 for food and you give it to him and he turns around and buys drugs/beer/etc with your $5, the problem is on him, not on you.

That wasn't exactly what I meant though. The Muslims have specific rules about how the Koran should be treated. I would think that laying it on the floor would be a violation of those rules.

Just be sure to ignore the parts in any holy book about what you should do with non-believers.
Because if we all educated ourselves about THAT little inconvenient truth, well, maybe we'd understand what all the fightin' is about. |

What I would do, is keep it till the next J. Witness comes around knocking, and then hand it to them, and say have a good day.
Simple. Pass it along. |

Of course, one thing I have found out over the past few years reading about Islam is that more and more sects are appearing within it. Its becoming more like Christianity in some ways with the various protestant, catholic, and other sects. So it may be that the sect that the prisoners were following had issues with the Koran being thrown on the floor, while the sect in Houston didn't have that particular restriction. There was an article a few days ago about a group of muslims in Scotland that objected to a postcard sent out by the local police because it depicted dogs, and to them dogs were unclean animals. Yet for some reason, the tolerate camels (a thoroughly disgusting and smelly animal). |

I get a postcard/letter in my mailbox every other week from a new church saying "let us be the church you call home". Ive seen countless times people with "I love Jesus" signs on street corners. Ive been handed bibles in public areas and even had some sent to my house.
Yet someone leaves a Koran on a doorstep and people act like theyre commiting a crime. Did they pruposely find the dumbest person they could for this interview? Maybe she should move to a nation that is a radical christian country run by brainwashed extremist who go around blowing up stuff in the name of God and beheading muslims for their religious beliefs. Then she can bitch about this. I wouldnt have a problem if her issue was with the fact that something was put on her doorstep, but shes only upset cause its a Koran. If it was a Bible she would probably be prasing the good citizens of her upstanding Texas community. While shes in America I guess shes gona have to put up with all this bullshit about freedoms of religion and that kinda nonesense. I am temporarily ashamed to be a Christian. |

Well good. I was hoping this would go the way it has gone. Bible Groups leave pamphlets on doors all the time. This is no different.
