Agent Carl Poston to me on Chris Gamble informing him he wants to retire: “A number of teams have expressed interest in Chris Gamble. However, Chris informed me last night that he wants to retire. Even though he still loves football, he told me that he’s decided to focus on life after football. Chris has been a class act. I have represented him for nine years, ever since he came out of Ohio State. He’s been an ideal client and he was one of the best corners in game. He’s doing it the right way. He has taken care of his money and his investments to retire successfully, and now I wish him the best in his future endeavors.” —Carl Poston

Gamble was always a guy who did his own thing. He never seemed to hang out w/any teammates or speak to the media. A quieter (if that's possible) Julius Peppers.

The thing that sucks most about being a defensive back is that people only ever remember the plays you gave up and not the countless times you defended successfully. Even if you do things that only 10 guys in the world can do and show it on Sunday for years. Making acrobatic plays like you have eyes in the back of your head, tackling guys twice your size over and over, taking HUGE licks from beasting backs and bigger receivers.

Whats even worse is that when you're reeally good, you're in on every play. . your close. . . but if you dont make that play its gonna look bad regardless, even if it was miraculous that you were in position to make the play. The amount of intuition it takes to play corner in the NFL is off the charts. QB is the only spot that compares, and you dont have to be among the fastest and strongest men in the world to do that.
