Don't Overlook Gilmore

Let me explain my thoughts and reasoning. This guy has 4.4 speed, is 6'1", 190 pounds, and is all around prototypical corner build. This guy has also played at the SEC level and was a leader on his team. Gilmore has been shooting up draft boards and has even been rumored to be seen as better than Claiborne. If we got this guy, I think this would be not a reach, but a great pick. It fills a need, and he would arguable be the best player on the board.
Here are sources citing how highly he is ranked comparatively to Claiborne, and picks.
SI's Peter King, Dan Pompei of the National Football Post, and NFL Network's Mike Mayock and Mike Lombardi have all recently either reported or suggested that Gilmore is top-ten material. In Caplan's mock draft he has Gilmore going to Buffalo with the tenth overall pick.
People all around the league are talking about the potential and skill of this guy, and most of you are too stubborn to like him. All corners will get burned, and yes, he needs to stay lower to the ground in his backpedal, but this guy is top 10 material.
NFL Films' Greg Cosell also stated in a Friday radio interview that Gilmore is a better prospect than Claiborne, the 2011 Thorpe Award winner. "He's a hot guy," Lombardi said of Gilmore. "I was told Jacksonville actually likes him more than Claiborne." Lombardi also sent Gilmore to the Jags in his latest mock draft. At this point, we'd be surprised if Gilmore got out of the top-ten picks, and No. 7 seems his likeliest destination.

Here is just a video showing some good and bad plays of Gilmore. One of the better blitzers out of the slot that I've seen at corner.
This is from a year ago mind you, and he has been getting better...... This guy breaks on the ball hard.
So, what I am trying to say is, don't discount this guy. He is a legitimate prospect who has good game tape as well.

I didn't say that was the reason Revis was good, but it's certainly a part of his game that makes him great, his ability while the ball is in the air.
I didn't say ball skills aren't something you look to when comparing corners. I said interceptions aren't something you look to, two different things.
You are better off being good in coverage with subpar ball skills than the other way around. Because if you get beat constantly it doesn't matter what kind of ball skills you have.
Went to his rival high school. Watched his entire high school career. He was absolutely unbelievable. He and Dee Bost (SG for Mississippi St.) were unstoppable. He huge, fast and catches everything. Only reason he didn't go to a bigger school was because of grades.
Hell to the fuggin no you dont take this guy in the top 10.
Im still not convinced Gilmore is better than Hosley and Hayward.
He damn sure aint better than Jenkins.
If you can tell the difference, then ask yourself if you can tell which play is being ran and who's got what assignment...
If you can't do both of those consistently, don't say anything about Gilmore getting burned or playing bad.
Heck most on here thought that Kirkpatrick was playing Zone all the time in college when he even admitted in an interview that Bama ran mostly Man and the zone looks they played were bump and run man coverage that floated into zone coverage in some places depending on what routes where ran.
He's got great size/speed, but that's not enough. I'd rather take Coples than this guy and I'm by no means on the Coples bandwagon. I really hope Cox is on the board because he's head and shoulders above both Coples AND Gilmore, IMO.
Cox
Keuchly
Gilmore
Floyd
Caplan said last night on Sirius that this was the deepest WR draft in history. Also said that there was not a "megatron" in this draft. Cross off Floyd
Said Kuechly was best LB in draft probably fit better in 43 at MLB but could play Sam or Will. Not a slam dunk need. Cross off Floyd.
Gushed about Cox and said he might not get past 6. All scouts he had spoken to said he was a great prospect and chould play all DLine positions except for nose. Far and away the best DL in draft.
Definite consideration.
Gilmore was another guy who eh said could go top ten just because of his skills and the fact that he had a big upside. He has been compared to D Woodson because of toughness, ability to rush QB and could play left, right, slot CB positions. Definite consideration
Said that Cox, Gilmore and would most likely be the targets of top ten trades
No one can evaluate film because none of us have game film. Youtube mixes aren't the best ways to evaluate players but they do show you tidbits on players.
I watch CFB and that's how I evaluate players, by actually watching the games. I can tell you Gilmore is not worthy of a top 10 pick. Sometimes it's hard to spotlight a CB on TV because the camera follows the ball and they are off screen many times. But you can tell when CBs are getting picked on, when they are having a rough time, when they are missing tackles, and so on....
Don't tell me you have to evaluate game film to know Captain is a poor CB.
Maybe I am only speaking for myself, but I think most acknowledged that he would seem to be better suited for zone not that they mostly ran zone necessarily.
I'm with you, that makes a lot of sense. Why draft Gilmore at 9 when you can get a better CB possibly at 40?
I don't know if he will be or not, but, like I said, if Cox, Coples, and Ingram are gone (which there is a slight chance of that happening), I wouldn't mind taking Gilmore at 9.
That's exactly why I just want this to be over, I'm sick of all of the what ifs because they are infinite.
The reality is that if somehow ALL of our guy's are gone before our pick for some STRANGE reason, we will go Michael Floyd because he is the best player available in the eyes of our front office. Also don't dis-include Kuechly.
more about cox vs gilmore. can't predict the 2nd round like that. I'd rather have Cox but who knows.
