BREAKING: Panthers OT Jordan Gross has agreed to a restructured contract. Base salary reduced from $8.7M to $1M in '13, $6.7M to $1M in '14.

@SteveReedAP4m
I'm not sure at this point if years were added on to the contract, but that would make sense. Hope to know more soon.

That'll help.

Has there been an official word on the actual cap effect?

Not to be a party pooper but 8 million in savings is jaw dropping. I want to see something official before I celebrate.

Gettleman has done more positive cap management in this single offseason than Hurney did the past 4 seasons.

I totally agree with you. The goal as a GM is to have a quality product on the field and put yourself in a position to win any giving Sunday and not put Rivera or your HC in a position to fail... if you do you will lose the fanbase.
Not really sure who Joel Corry is, but he says he's an NFL contracts and cap expert and writes at NationalFootballPost, so I'm going to trust him

Jordan Gross has cut his '13 salary from $8.7M to $5.5M. His '14 contract year at $6.7M will now void next February 7th.

nm ^ he beat he me.
ahhh boo... Only $3.3m... enough to sign our draft picks :(
Looks like we're back in business.

looks like we're saving close to 3 mil, on the flip side his deal is voidable next year. OL here we come!

Converting the money to bonus allows us to spread it out over more years but if the contract were to be voided, or Gross cut then the balance would be due immediately... this effectively guarantees that Gross is on the team another two seasons while at the same time putting off his cap issues until 2015...

But yes for now this is huge...
So he doesn't have a contract for 2014?
so he's a free agent after this year?

The Panthers pick up $6.8M of cap room with Jordan Gross' renegotiated contract.

Thinking Tackle is the pick.

Playing like they did Gross in 03.

Jordan plays Left Tackle and Rookie plays RT in 2013.

2013 2nd Year Tackle moves to Left Tackle and Jordan retires, signs cheaply, or moves on.

@NickMensio That's true. The Panthers will have a $5.6M cap charge in '14 for Jordan Gross when his contract voids.

6.8M of cap space. We could sign a couple solid free agents.
Wow, much needed
poo just got real .
Does anyone find it strange it took this long or was there a purpose behind it?

Thank you JESUS!!!!

Open sesame!
Dammit, Michael Huff just signed with the Ravens. Please go get Alan Branch!
Can it be possible we redo contracts on the Running backs as well....

Gross thank you now we can sign dem players!

Gettlemen magic

My thinking it was purely for negotiation purposes. Everyone Carolina dealt with(agents) knew how much cap money we had. So saying hey we only have this much, we are offering all we have helped. Then after getting as much leverage as we could, negotiated more cap space to deal with whatever potential free agents still left on the market after all the other teams overpaid. It's like going shopping the day after Christmas!!!

Or it could be Gross just decided to make the offer to restructure after looking at how the market was shaping.

Either way win win I think.

Well, you wouldn't want to flash cap space money around while you made the moves Gettleman made up to this point...now you make the room to dpend some on a bigger impact player

I like Gettlemania better
Definitely opens room to sign draft picks!!! Gross clearly wants to help the team win now by accepting that...or else he might have been cut.
