Mini Camp Updates

Jun 14 2012 11:01 AM TruCatzFan Carolina Panthers
I'll start it off

@SteveReed_AP: WR Armanti Edwards hauls in bomb from Cam and tosses the ball in the crowd. May need some footballs before this is all over today.

@SteveReed_AP: Man, Steve Smith still looks blazing fast at age 33. Don't buy it if he tries to tell you he's getting old

@Panthers: P Harris just flipped the ball to Hangartner for a TD on a fake field goal attempt. Geoff tossed the ball into the crowd.

@josephperson: Rookie WR Lamont Bryant beats Darius Butler for TD in 1-on-1 drill.

@josephperson: About 2,000 fans at BoA Stadium for last minicamp practice.

I think that's it folks... And all from my cell while at work because the Army "blocks" twitter. Hope this was helpful for those that were too busy. We should be inundated with plenty if articles this evening and in the coming days... Not to mention interviews that will undoubtedly be posted by IvanTheAwesome and FieryProphet.

I'm out

Hell yeah, Nortman is going to a franchise punter and not many people realize the value in that.

Andy Lee was a huge part of the 49ers success last year.

We won't need a punter this year, but I'm glad he's aboard.

:cam:
As I was leaving right around 1230 the announcer says "Jimmy Clausen to Armani Edwards" and I thought man, what are the chances of ever hearing that on the loud speaker again? It was a much larger turnout than expected, they had to keep opening more sections as more and more fans showed up. Great idea by the Panthers.

Tolbert looks like a bowling ball out there, so short and stocky. Love it, can't wait for Fall.
Apparently Person went to the car to nap. Too much work in a day.

Defensive Player of the Year? thats a stretch.

It's called an exaggeration.

Armanti always looks good in shorts.

No homo?
lol jimmy

Ron Rivera says DT Ron Edwards was held out of OTA's and minicamp with a hamstring injury. Edwards biceps is fine.

Leaving practice now. Pics later.
Overall... I think we heard some great things about our players today. I read an article this am in the Observer (online) saying that Norman was pissing Smitty off in practice because Smitty wasnt able to get open. I got excited but tried to stay reserved... Then he does it again today at BOA Stadium in the mini camps. How much more excited can we be about this??? This draft class may be one of the best ever. I know it's early and I know that I'm caught up in the moment but I'm excited about this guy...

I'm excited about the whole damn team quite frankly

KUDOS TO HC RON RIVERA FOR OPENING IT UP TO THE FANS... CLASS ACT AND WE SHOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE HIM HERE IN CAROLINA!

Just heard that Nortman boomed a corner kick. . .hangtime 6.2 seconds.

those that had heard of nortman pre-draft knew this was something that made this kid special. too many people were staring at how many yards a punt he was getting rather than how he was impressing people with an incredible ability to make the ball hang in the air and place it where he wants.

this will come in handy and be much more helpful than just getting some guy with a cannon for a leg.

shorter punts with a lot of hangtime = easier for coverage units to get there and shut down any chance of a PR for a TD. you boom it downfield and the returner may have a long ways to return the ball but your coverage units also have a long way to get there and it just gives the returners more time to get set up and line up his blockers.
Plus he kicked half his games in Wisconsin. In the fall and winter. Bleh.

6.2 seconds is a ridiculous amount of hang time. I dont know if Ive ever seen a 6.2 second punt. 5.2 yeah, not 6.2. I cant even imagine what it looks like. Did he spin the crap out of it or what I wonder?

Ill have to see it for myself.
21-23July Panthers are having another mini camp for select players (rookies?)

Then on 27 July they will report to Wofford for Training Camp

First practice morning of 28 July

LET THE TIME FLY BY!!!!!!
Hate to revist last year's "told you so" lashing I gave much of the huddle regarding Cam, but I may have to do it again regarding Josh Norman. Told you so.
@josephperson: RJ Stanford picks off Jimmy Clausen. (LOL)

No Jimmy, No. No!
After the open practice, ‪#Panthers‬ QB Cam Newton took a random journalists' camera and began photographing the fans.

I remember during the draft chat we were coming up with names for guys, and I think getting stranded on "Lake Norman" will be very fitting.

Tolbert looked great out there. Why was gamble not out there today in drills?

Also if he is able to angle kicks to one side or the other your team can cheat to that way. Baker was horrible with that.

Terrible form. Elbows in, never out. He will never make it in the big leagues.
