Panthers cut James Anderson

Stupid move, rework the contract, not cut the contract! 2 years ago has most tackles for team, yeah last year injured but really?

Talent gone... We had a great LB Group but we are working on getting rid of that.

They did just release DJ Williams, James would fit well in that D. No matter, he's not a difference maker. James is a nice linebacker but we don't need him, he's expendable.

We will see, gonna be a terrible move when we only have 2 healthy LB's like we have for the last few years...

a restructure isn't always a magical solution to poor deals.

Anderson was JAG. JAG can rack up talent with poor talent around him. Anderson did. You need JAGs, they are important to winning....but only at JAG prices.

We have to spread the talent and resources on this team. I will take the 2 healthy linebackers if it means we can add some depth to the crew of castaways and cutouts we have in the secondary.

I respect those who have invested in this team personally for PSL's and tickets.

In all honesty, we've always taken our season ticket costs as sunk costs. However, if other PSL owners are jumping ship, the ginger clan needs to upgrade our set, we need 9-10 together. Stupid kids and whatnot. I'm not dying in the next year or so, I can be patient for this cleansing to wrap up. I take it as my colonic, Hurney style.

I def understand all of this but how often do we spread the wealth and pick up talent on either side of the ball? Its been a long time fellas... Well, new GM and hopefully he can steer the ship in the right direction.

That's true and I understand Anderson has talent. I like the guy, but it's the same thing with Williams and Stewart. Both guys are awesome people and have talent, but the team would probably have been better off if we had made the hard decision and let one of them go be awesome and talented elsewhere.

teams don't want average guys with non-average contracts.

anyway, no disrespect to Anderson with the JAG talk.

He was one of the good guys. Did his job. No trouble. Reached out to the fanbase. Hurney's fault IMO we lose a good one.

I can't think of the last time a 4-3 outside linebacker was traded. Just not a position that moves the needle a lot.

No one wants a part of that contract.

It's better to eat the dead money now. If we keep putting off debt then we'll continually be handcuffed. Gettlemen said he wanted to be "thoughtful" towards the future and not designating this as a June 1st cut falls in line with that mantra. I know we all want to be in win now mode, but in reality we made need one more year before we can get to that point. This year I'd be happy to have a winning record or sneak into the wild card, which is still possible.

With the recent transition to the pass-first NFL, teams run a base 4-3 or 3-4 defense less than ever. Teams need to put more corners on the field to cover 3 and 4 receiver sets. Cutting Anderson frees up some money to replace Gamble and Munnerlyn and I think it's a smart move.

So this may have already been answered, but can you cut a player NOW and designate him as a future (June 1st) cut?

Yea, the team did that with Wharton. It just helps the player out and not the team.

No matter where I go, you and your love will always be a defining part of who I am as a player and as a person. Thank you to my friends, family, and teammates who have always had my back. I will continue to Keep Pounding and I want the Panthers players, coaches, staff, and Nation to do the same. Getting ready to start a new chapter in my life.
