Pete Caroll: "Watch Out For Cam Newton & Panthers!"

Sounds like one NFC rival coach is very impressed:

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has a new quarterback in Matt Flynn, the second-biggest free agent quarterback this offseason.
But Carroll spent part of his offseason – and about five minutes Wednesday morning on the final day of the NFL owners meetings – marveling at the play of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton during his record-breaking rookie season.
Carroll studied video of Newton over the winter to see how a quarterback with no experience in an NFL-style offense succeeded in a complex scheme to post the most prolific passing season ever by a rookie.
What Carroll discovered was Newton's success was the byproduct of “an extraordinarily rare athlete” playing in a varied scheme that played to his strengths. And as long as Newton stays healthy, Carroll predicts big things for him and the Panthers.
“Look out for those guys. Holy mackerel,” Carroll said at the NFC coaches breakfast. “If he can just stay out there, they're going to be a fantastic team.”

I guess it's official now,

Unless our FO makes drastic changes in the way they run the team we are never going to be more than pretty good. Cam can make us relevant, but we won't compete at the highest level making the types of decisions our FO has been making.

I'm assuming you don't like our off season so far? Specifically free agency?

Even if you do, that branch that you're on is thin.
Still, there was little in the preseason to suggest Newton would throw for 400 yards in his first two NFL games. Rivera said Newton's most impressive pass in a Week 1 loss at Arizona was a 26-yard touchdown to Steve Smith just before halftime, when Newton looked off the safety and hit Smith in the corner of the end zone.
Said Rivera: “That's when you felt, 'Man, he's getting it.'”

Anyone want to post this play for me :)

Fast Forward to 0:25.

Fast Forward to 0:25.

Also skip 0:49- 1:06 and 1:38- 2:00...Trust me...

Look out for fieryprophets signature. Whooo!

Your sig can dance in my head any time.

If this guy doesn't bring multiple super bowls to this team then i'm just at a loss for words. The only way he doesn't get us a trophy is the front office has completely screwed the pooch.

Let's start with back to back winning seasons..........

then let's move on to back to back playoff seasons before we talk multiple SB's.
everyone better watch out for that 6-10 team that hasn't done anything to improve themselves in the offseason. watch out NFL !!!

Um, that's a bit unrealistic to say. The Special teams has improved dramatically. Running game is ridiculously strong now, albeit it wasn't the problem. Last year the Defense and Special teams were the weak part of the team. As of now, they've improved, not as much as I'd like, but have improved.
The draft coming up, I'm sure they will improve the defense this way.

This post has been promoted to an article

Coaches all across the league are envious of Rivera and who he has at QB.

Yeah I dont like this kind of krap.
Don't want this young Panther team reading the Morning News and making assumptions.
Pete Carroll aint no dumby. Up to you Ron Rivera to make sure focus isn't lost. The Panthers have accomplished nothing yet.

The couple simple ST additions and a dedication to improving ST's could correct the Arizona, Chicago and maybe the Vikings games last year. No draft or roster decisions are final yet...would you consider saving that comment for at least a month?

Beason and the Peterson TD. Thanks man, I'm pissed off now. =/
uh let's see

cut our starting LG, signed a low end replacement, at best that's a break even move

lost Shockey, Conner, Senn, Schwartz
added a few STers and a 3rd string RB/FB

I'd say we are worse off now than when we finished the season, you can talk about all this stuff that's gonna happen and blah blah blah but until it does as of now we're not a playoff team

lost Shockey, Senn

Not signed yet, but ok...

Um... Tolberts a Special teams ace besides being a very competent Running back.

Look at this.

Can you envision a draft that changes that? Cause that's about all that we're getting before opening day.

Not signed yet, but ok...

they're not signed on our team right now. if we sign them, great. if we sign some other quality players to improve the defense, great.

once we plug up all these holes and actually improve the 6-10 team then i'll be jerking myself to playoff thoughts like everyone else but none of that has happened yet. plenty of teams have signifigantly improved themselves thus far but we aren't one of them. waiting on all this hurney magic to transform this bad team into super bowl champions. waiting waiting waiting, we'll see what happens i guess

i like tolbert and i mentioned we added a few STers. STs should be better although we still need a punter and to replace mare. maybe our inhouse practice squad guys will work out for that, who knows. still i think our STs will be better but as of right now both our offense and defense look worse and overall slightly worse off than last season but right about where we were

You won't acknowledge this team improving until you see it on the field...I can get that, but bitching now doesn't do any good.

Name the "plenty of teams that have significantly improved"...we can take notes and track your prognostications. Pre-draft, this ought to be good... I guess Buffalo, 49ers, Denver, TB...Wonder why and I'd like to see any additional guesses you had in mind.

I hate to say it, but the Cowgirls have improved themselves.
denver i would say too
bengals have actually been pretty active so far as well

the biggest winner so far i think is the patriots. they were one routine catch that welker makes 99 times out of 100 away from winning the super bowl and they've made HUGE improvements to their team. and they still have an asston of draft picks coming up like they always do

and these were all playoff teams last year that they're building on. we were 6-10, probably worse off now than we were then but DAMNIT EVERYONE WATCH OUT!!
ok guys just for comparison

building off a 13-3 season, #1 overall seed, one routine catch away from winning the super bowl

since the patriots have added...

will allen, FS
marquice cole, DB
jonathan fanene, DE
daniel fells, TE
tony fiammetta, FB
anthony gonzalez, WR
robert gallery, OG
steve gregory, SS
marcus harrison, DT
spencer larsen, FB
brandon lloyd, WR
trevor scott, DE
donte stallworth, WR

and re-signed...

deion branch, WR
dan connolly, C
mathew slater, FS
tracy white, OLB

ohh.. and they have 5 draft picks in the first 3 rounds compared to our 2.

who have they lost? the only free agent they had that has signed elsewhere already is a RB (BenJarvus Green-Ellis) and they pretty much always go running back by committee and it never slows them down.

so someone explain to me why they or these other elite teams around the league need to "watch out" for a 6-10 team that's only beaten one team with a winning record over the last two seasons and done next to nothing so far.
Then there are the Pats draft picks:

1st Round (Pick 27) (via New Orleans)
1st Round (Pick 31)
2nd Round (Pick 48) (via Oakland)
2nd Round (Pick 62)
3rd Round (Pick 93)
4th Round (Pick 126)

They have been good at playing idiot General Managers.
See Marty Hurney/Armanti Edwards.
You know b/c you go around signing people doesn't mean you're going to SB. The Pats already have a system in place and with Brady they'll going to compete and be right there

With us... got a young team, a hungry team and a QB that will only get better. Our offense is going to be a problem just like last season. Notice how many games that was close and could never squeeze out a W because our defense was weak. Once we improve on that side, we got it

The most intriguing thing that I got from that article is that u read in between the lines... Sure there was a lot of great info, and sure we have a great WR corp as it is, but I'll tell you this...

Do NOT sleep on this Chris Manno kid that we just signed!!! He has been working Exclusively with Cam all Summer and they have already developed something that Gettis has not (timing) not to say that Gettis isn't there too (and just not being reported).

This Manno guy will probably make the team, even if he starts out on ST, he's probably a baller! If you think that Cam didn't have something to do with this signing your fuggin Nuts! This no name guy might be a household name by Sept or Oct...

all summer?.....its still winter.
