Bobcats Select Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

charlotte bobcats

I'm jumping on this bandwagon now! Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, imo will be a STAR in the NBA. Probably the safest pick for us at no.2 also. Many believes MKG will make an immediate NBA impact. Gilchrist is an NBA ready player whose skills should help him start from day one. Some have think that he is an All-star waiting to happen. His work ethic is also tremendous. Someone who will do all the dirty work and clean up the mess.

MKG is not a great range shooter, but one who will drives hard to the basket and earn those hard points. He will only improve his shooting in the pros. A great defender and rebounder forward who would be a huge upgrade for us over guys like Derrick Brown, Thomas, Moon, Najera, and White. He will be someone who could defend guys like Lebron and Wade in the future. Many people think we need a big man or so, but HELL! every position is a need for us. We need help at every position. Can't go wrong taking a guy like MKG. Gilchrist should be our first priority to building a championship team for the future. He shows up every game with his intensity and never give up mentality. Will only help Kemba and Biyombo grows.

Gilchrist has been compared to guys like Gerald Wallace, Andre Iguodala, and Scottie Pippen.

DRAFT PROFILE:

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Kentucky - Freshman (Born 1993)
Small Forward
6'8" 228lbs

The Good:

-
great size for the small forward position
- 6'10" wingspan
- elite defender who is good/big/long/athletic enough to guard multiple positions in the NBA
- relentless driver who is terrific at getting to the hoop and finishing
- extremely hardworking, intense player
- always gives 100% effort on both ends of the floor
- big game experience
- terrific rebounder for his position
- is a great scorer in transition which should translate well to the pros

The Bad:

- poor outside shooter - will need to improve his shooting range to keep NBA defenders honest
- still extremely young (won't turn 19 until September) so might not be ready to contribute immediately
- needs to work on his ball-handling
- probably doesn't project to be a "superstar"

NBA Comparison:

*Andrei Iguodala/Gerald Wallace* - both in terms of playing style (do-it-all) and level of play (All-Star)

The Skinny:

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is probably the player who did the most to improve his draft stock this season (at least among the elite prospects).  He now has a legitimate shot at being the second name called by David Stern in June.  While he might not project to be a NBA superstar, he does look like an All-Star level player and a mainstay on the NBA's All-Defensive Team.

Brooklyn will.

Congrats chuck got what you wanted you idiot!!!! Glad we have a defender so we can hold teams to 80 while we score 60

Hey this is Carolina-chuck who wanted MKG. Let me rub it in your face. :P

Most of these idiots are hyping "MKG" because they like saying "MKG" and "Kidd-Gilchrist". They'd rather take a chance on someone DEVELOPING A JUMPSHOT instead of someone improving their handle, which is illogical thinking.

Again, the only reason they do, is because they like "MKG/Kidd-Gilchrist's" attitude. They think he's "tough" and "flashy".

He's coooooool.

...SARCASM throughout.

Ohhh he was coooooool last night. He was tough! And he was flashy! Now, I love saying MKG even more. MKG MKG MKG MKG MKG MKG MKG MKG MKG!!!!! :P

LOL. Sorry, but I don't wear anything with athletes' or teams' names on them.

Somewhere down the road, I see this Oracle repping a MKG jersey bc he's tough, flashy, and has a nice name to go on the back of a jersey.
This is ur last chance to get back on the wagon Oracle. I wasnt at first but im 100% on now.

Ive already said I was going to support him after my initial outburst draft night, but come on dude its summer league. Taye Biddle dominated some preseason games.

Somehow I knew you were going to say that. Quit using excuses, bc I will rubb it again in preseason and in once the season start.
lol, it IS the summer league chuck, which is nothing more tham glorified scrimmages. But you can still get hyped about certain things, like Dunlaps system, and watching how players college game translate to different levels. Im still gonna be skeptical of MKG this season, but his hustle, energy, and already top tier defense has me sold on the guy.

Watching Trob last night pretty much solidifed why we got the second best player in the draft.

How is saying it is summer league an excuse? I hope you were right and I was wrong but im not going to proclaim you a genius off one summer league game. Ill wait until the regular season to praise you.

I never said I was a genius. It is just a summer league but you and I both know, the kidd can ball.

Didn't say you were asking to be, but I am going to deem you one hopefully in a few months. Youre welcome.

I don't ride in wagons.

With how Dunlap presses these guys (not that I don't like his style of game), and how he throws his body around, I'll be surprised if Gilchrist plays 50 games this season.

And this guy still talking. I mean enough already. You're just making yourself looks worst each time you say something. I'm waiting for that 51st game and then you know it, I'm rubbing it in your face. Get ready.

well see soon enough. =P

I base nothing about myself on what other people think about me, so how I "look" to others isn't a factor in what I think or say. Gilchrist will be hurt much more than Wallace was, guaranteed. The season is 82 games. Both he and Dunlap are going to have to pull back some before it's over, or they're going to tear up anything good they had a chance to build.

The most intense guys normally just live in the moment. They don't think ahead. It's 100% and 100mph all the time. That's how Gilchrist plays, and that's the style of game Dunlap coaches. I like the effort, but you can't press like that for 82 games, and you can't throw your body around when that's what you make your living off of.

At some point, skill (like being able to consistently put the ball in the basket without having to "ATTACK") is going to win out, because "effort" is going to run itself ragged. That's when Gilchrist's development will matter. You can look great at first when you're athletically gifted, and you play hard, but it'll catch up to you eventually.

I'm not being "critical", just realistic. "Fans" can't be rational, so I wouldn't refer to myself as one.
I know this is a stupid question but when is his jersey going to be available

MKG is probably the hardest worker on this young bobcats team already and hes a rookie.
I guaranteed hes smart enough, without anyone asking to get physically fit to play against bigger SF.
If Kemba were able to play 66 games last year and Kyrie Irving starting 51 games, despite the different position they played, I dont see how MKG cant play 51 games just to prove your idiotic argument wrong.
