Along the Sidelines - Division Champs Edition

Dec 29 2013 06:18 PM Zod Carolina Panthers
Greetings from Bank of America South, formerly known as the Georgia Dome.

Today Panthers fans took over Atlanta in convincing fashion. I have never seen an away game with so much blue.

The day for them started a little shaky however.

Cam struggled early, mainly due to awful play by Byron Bell.
Posted Image

Bell was promptly sat down with in-game photos to study. It seems to have helped.
Posted Image

Cam was able to bounce back with his arm....
Posted Image

..and his legs.
Posted Image

As usual, it took a spark from the defense to get things moving. Melvin White's pick 6 was a thing of beauty.
Posted Image

The rest of the defense followed suit by harassing Matt Ryan for most of the game.

I'm not sure if you have noticed, but Short is developing in to one of the better under tackles the Panthers have had.
Posted Image

Frank Alexander made an appearence which was good to see. With Hardy unlikely to resign with Carolina, we will need a few strong DE prospects.
Posted Image

Once the defense took control, the rest of the offense came alive as well.

I love Thomas Davis. That guy nearly lifted Jackson off his feet multiple times in an attempt to strip the ball.
Posted Image

Speaking of Jackson, people forget how big he is. Our DB's were wise to go for his feet.
Posted Image

One player I think that is under appreciated is Greg Olsen. All he does is make completion after completion and the occasional touchdown. He is, by far, our best receiving threat with Steve Smith out. I wish I saw Olsen jerseys on gamedays.
Posted Image

Williams and Tolbert combined for a legitimate running attack. I am sure if the Panthers lost I would be making a big deal about the Deangelo fumble.. but its hard to complain when you have a first round bye.

Posted Image

One funny side note. After Tolbert rumbled over several Falcons I witnessed one linebacker get on the case of another. His reply was something to the effect of "Well you tackle him then" lol. Poor fellas.

At the end of the day, Bank of America South said goodbye to one legend....
Posted Image

and hello to a new one.
Posted Image

In the locker room Mike Tolbert led the team in song. "Kings of the South" was playing on repeat.
Posted Image

So here the Panthers are, the number two seed and enjoying a playoff week 1 bye. A week of rest will do tremendous things for this team.

They will be ready. They will be waiting.

Can you hear us now?

Great pics as always but how do you know for sure Hardy is unlikely to resign?

Thank you so much! The pics & *cough* commentary are great!

I'm positive you could hear me yelling all the way to Atlanta lol.

Best regular season photos! On to the playoffs!

dling kings of the south now.

Pictures of the crowd?

That.....is an impressive fingertip push up White is doing there...

Hardy unlikely to resign??

Hardy unlikely to resign??

We have Cam and Luke contracts coming up along with one highly payed DE and a couple other young very promising ones.

We won't be paying Hardy his market worth.

Gettleman is not Hurney.

GREG HARDY IS HERE TO STAY!!!!!   Quit jinxing us!

I think letting Greg walk would be an epically bad decision. At this point he's our best D lineman
Wow....good poo. These were some of your best . But I say that every week.

Very good job.  I'm glad you gave a reson for Cam's performance early.  His face didn't have a look of confidence.

As far as Hardy goes, it is unfortunate that we will not be able to pay his worth.  I hope we do.

I'm taking one of your excursions next year.

I hope so. It's a damn good time to roll out with a bunch of Panthers fans in opposing teams' cities

Franchise his ass!!!

That's all you're basing your comment/theory on?
Nothing you've heard or seen around the locker room etc?
(not saying that your logic isn't sound, it is, just wondering if you have more insight than the rest of us)

My issue with Olsen is his complete lack of YAC. The man seems to look for the nearest tackler to run at and then when he gets touched goes down immediately. Also for a fast TE he looks REALLY slow at times.
Perhaps a slight issue, but a very annoying one to watch on gameday.
Also, for someone who prides himself on being in on every play and performing at every task he's given, his blocking leaves something to be desired.

Edit: Forgot to say that pic of Melvin White is flat out awesome (no pun intended). And I love the feeling from the locker pic as well. Were you able to scoop yourself an NFCS champ hat?

Some of you don't understand how the salary cap works.

Well there's always the franchise tag..

If we can't reach an accord with Hardy, then place a first round tender on his ass!

Remember when we used to franchise Pep all the time and we had no money for anyone else... yeah.

Great pics Zod.

I disagree about Hardy though.

Can't let him walk. He'll get the tag at the very least, but I have a feeling that he will give us a discount and other guys will re-work their contracts.

In a perfect world, CJ says "hey, i'll restructure for less so we can keep this defense intact" and a couple other guys do the same. However, this is pro sports we're talking about. These guys, as much as we like to think our team is different, want their money. They dont want to make less than guys they feel they are better than. We may well see Hardy walk. It would suck, because he IS a fan favorite and has done so much for us, but keeping Cam and Luke is far more important, and what Hardy is gonna be offered elsewhere is going to be more than we can afford.

Very nice Zod...how did you get in the locker room?

For everyone else. let's just enjoy Greg for the next 3 games.  His performance today probably sealed the deal.  Gettleman has to look long term and we cannot afford what we have on the books now, signing Greg long term and the upcoming commitments of Cam, Luke, signing a FA WR, et al.

Stop worrying about the things we can do nothing about.

Restructures don't mean getting paid less they usually mean changing the cap hit by giving the player a signing bonus.  Most any player is glad to do it, that way they get their money upfront.  The only restructures for less are for guys who aren't earning their salaries or are coming off serious injuries.

Killer. Great that our fans came. My favorite moment was when Tolbert went sledgehammer on the falcons linebacker corp. Also loved seeing flyin Ryan getting familiar with the turf, again and again and again.
