Exclusive Fan Fest Photos

Jul 25 2014 09:52 PM Jeremy Igo Carolina Panthers
Yet again Fan Fest has come and gone.

Due to the CBA regulations, the players did not wear pads. So, unlike in years past, fan fest did not feature an actual scrimmage. Still, it was great to see the guys in action.

Before practice began, Cam had some encouragement for Greg Hardy, who was fairly quit for the practice. It an awkward situation Hardy is in, but everyone is trying to make the best of it.

I noticed KB tends to stick his tongue out quite a bit. It worked for Jordan, but I am not so sure its a great idea in football...

Posted Image

Cam Newton and Ryan Kalil continue to develop great chemistry. I think it is under appreciated how well these guys do together.
Posted Image

Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis threw on the sidelines for a while. Davis kept putting some heat on the ball and causing Luke to drop them with the crowd watching, which wasn't appreciated. The two really do seem like brothers.

The usual conditioning and training drills began.

Posted Image

Posted Image

We got our first look at Tyler Gaffney. Gaffney may see increased snaps at the start of training camp due to Jonathan Stewart's hamstring pull. Gaffney really needs to take advantage of it.

Posted Image

Chandler and Bell once again split time at both tackle positions throughout the day.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Dave Gettleman was seen on the sidelines looking over his squad. He was joking around with Charles Johnson a bit and seems to really have the respect of the players. I think they relate to him well as an ex-football coach.
Posted Image

Cam looked healthy and was able to perform all that was asked of him.
Posted Image

It is not surprise that Josh Norman looked good. He always looked good in camp and in practice. Can he make his way out of the dog house this season?
Posted Image

Posted Image

Tavarres King made a really nice grab that was initially bobbled in the air during wr/cb matchups. In an actual game, it may have been picked off by a safety. None the less, it was impressive to watch.
Posted Image

Byron Bell was drawn offsides by Charles Johnson. The flag would probably gone against Johnson I believe, Cam's hard count the credit.
Posted Image

There is little doubt in my mind that Trai Turner is our day 1 starter at right guard. The man is a double wide.
Posted Image

Swole Bones Brandon Williams also made some nice grabs with the first string. If he can produce this year it is going to be huge for the Panthers offense. Hello two tight end sets!
Posted Image

Any time I can take a picture and have two future All Pro players in the frame, its a picture worth taking.
Posted Image

Benjamin made a nice grab from Cam in heavy traffic and headed for the end zone. He continues to flash and could be a breakout player this year.
Posted Image

Deangelo looked good, as usual. He has never had an issue with conditioning in camp. We tend to take that for granted. Could Vinnie Testaverde's influence on him still linger?
Posted Image
Kenjon Barner is quick. He gets to the outside faster than any running back on the roster. He also made a couple of really nice grabs. I know some of you have written him off, but I haven't.
Posted Image

Cam had a blast directing "the wave" with the crowd. I can't think of another player in Panthers history with so much likeability and charisma.
Posted Image

Posted Image

The best play of the day goes to Bersin with a gorgeous TD grab over Byndom.
Posted Image

After practice, it is easy to see who is the most sought after player by the media for a quote.

Hope you enjoyed these photos.

I am heading to Spartanburg on Saturday for the kickoff party. If you are there, please be sure to say hello!

Zod...I love you

Amazing photos. Thanks. Really still do wonder what Vinny T. said to D-Will that changed things. Just told him straight up how to be a pro?

I ended up going! Traffic on 85 was a nightmare though and i didn't get into the stadium til close to 7. And then the daughter wasnt interested in the on field action. We had a blast in the concourses though. Thanks for showing me what i didn't get to see.

The world is gonna find out who Thomas Davis is this year.

Also, I haven't given up on Barner at all.  He didn't get much of a shot last season due to a badly time injury, us going on an 8-game win streak and the fact he got lit up the few carries he did get.  I still think he'll be a good player for us.  Dude was looking good from the little bit I've seen in the stream and videos.

I'm Fed-Ex-ing you an actual pie.

He likes snickers pie.

Thanks Jeremy, great work!

Zod, Jeremy, whatever you want to be called.

From one man to another...

I love you man.

This message is brought to you by The Best Huddle App ever made.

These were great. Some things I saw:

the king catch you speak of was of his own mistake, he made it harder than it should have been. He also dropped quite a few balls that shouldn't have been.

Gafney looked like he could actually be an NFL RB.

Barner surprised me. I've been very vocal about him in the past but Zod was right, he did look like he belonged.

Avant and cotchery catch everything near them. Olsen too. He was constantly one handing passes throughout practice. Showing off for the crowd I spose.

Brandon williams was alright, he looks shaky trying to catch passes. Ed Dickson looks more comfortable with passes thrown his way in my opinion.

Cam looked good, couldn't even tell he had surgery really.

Bersin looked damn good. I was actually impressed with him. He had a number of great plays.

Kelvin looked solid, didn't really stand out. I personally didn't see many throws go his way though.

They always seemed to have the first and last play of reciever drills go to Kelvin. Then random WR or TE in between.

I just wanted to add some observations.

Our offense completed an abnormally high number of passes today. Receivers were frequently getting wide open. Between Cam and DA I probably saw more dropped passes than overthrows.

This could mean a lot of things but ultimately it means nothing. Good job with the route running and throwing but our defensive backs are just getting their feet under them with no pads.

Brandon Williams had one very bad drop in the flats but other than that he looked pretty good. He was getting a ton of reps compared to last year.

Tiquan Underwood had the drop of the day. Had a perfect long ball hit both his hands and fall to the ground. He had other good moments though.

Brenton Bersin had the best catch. He did a great job of running after the catch with 2 defenders wrong footed. Looked like a terrible interception and he leaped in front of the defender with arms extended.

Ed Dickson and DC Jefferson both looked like big athletic guys. Both made some catches. We have several guys behind Greg that could be useful players.

Kelvin Benjamin was very impressive. Let me caveat this by saying the secondary did not get handsy with him. They played off coverage with single deep so Kelvin was running off the line and making nice deep in cuts. He caught everything I saw and bounced off contact. He did not look like a project in relation to our other Wide Receivers. But we have a long season ahead of us.

As far as fan fest goes, it was hot but most of the stadium was shaded when I arrived at 6:30. Very comfortable compared to fan fest in 2010 when the gates opened at noon and practice ended at 6.

The new scoreboards are slightly bigger. The images are definitely bigger. But the advertisements on them are so large it's insulting to fans and tax payers. Miller lite should have paid for the damned things, not the City of Charlotte. Forget the ribbons, nothing but Belk and CPI security commercials distracting me from the practice.

If you had kids I really hoped you stayed for the fireworks show. I saw many parents dragging their kids out around 8pm rather than wait for the fireworks. I came in skeptical but the fireworks show was amazing. Absolutely first class. They had lazers drawing Panther heads and yard lines on the field. That's right. Panthers with fricken LAZERS. The fire works were very good. My nieces went nuts ate age 4 and 6. There was about a 2 minute stretch where all I heard is "I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT". They really cranked up the sound for the fireworks and it was very much improved. Will it ever be as good as an arena? No. But it was very nice for an outdoor facility.

The ad ribbons really illuminate the bowl even with the stadium lights cut off. It's a cool feel. Reminds me of those Ericsson Cell Phone Commercials in the 90s.

All in all. It was a lovely day to be down town and have fun with the family. My nieces really enjoyed the fireworks so I left very happy.

Barner surprised me. I've been very vocal about him in the past but Zod was right, he did look like he belonged.

Here is the thing about Barner. NFL defenses evolve at a freakish pace. A couple years ago Darren Sproles was lighting up the league so the Bucs draft Lavonte David. So big and fast he can run down guys like Barner.

I just remember a play last year where everything looked good Barner got the ball and needed a block from I think Chris Scott on Lavonte David. Lavonte ran around Scott like he was super glued to the field and drilled Barner for no gain. It's hard for Barner to succeed under those circumstances.

He needs to get better but he got clobbered a few times because the line couldn't help him.

Excellent.

BERSIN!

As usual thanks so much for the photos - this place takes your talent and passion for the team for granted too often

Please go back to being ZOD
