Today the Green Bay Packers head to Bank of America Stadium to take on the Carolina Panthers in an important NFC matchup. All eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers as he returns to give the Packers one last hope of a postseason. The Panthers on the other hand are looking to improve their probable playoff seed and avoid yet another letdown.
The Packers enter the game with the 26th ranked defense in the NFL. Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers offense are coming off an impressive game against the highly ranked Vikings defense. Therefore, today’s game provides them an opportunity to prove they can display the consistency of a true Superbowl contender. Something they have not done this season.
Aaron Rodgers will most certainly need to show his hiatus has had no effect on his playing ability. Currently ranked 25th, the Packers offense has looked like a shadow of its former self without him.
Unfortunately for the Packers, it is difficult for a quarterback to miss months of football and immediately return to his former self. Look no further than Tony Romo against the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving Day of 2015. Not only did the Panthers make Romo look like a rookie on national television, they effectively ended his career in the process.
The wild card here is the huge distraction surrounding the investigation of Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson. Whatever the news is, I am sure it will come as no surprise to the Panthers players themselves. Therefore, it should have little influence on game play.
The Carolina Panthers will easily handle the Green Bay Packers today.
