“What was, was. This is now.” For my money, this is the most important quote from the day from new Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper.
Tepper just bought a used franchise, and he has no interest at all in talking about what the previous owner did with it. It is his now, time to move forward. Any media hoping to get more juicy details into former Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson’s behavior will be disappointed.
A Carolina Panthers Practice facility is happening. His most definitive language was used in regards to this. Look for an indoor practice field that can also be used for other functions. Long overdue. It is silly that the team still has to practice at a hotel ball room when weather is bad. Embarrassing.
David Tepper appears to be a straight shooter. When asked about keeping the statue of Jerry Richardson, he did not have to say that contractually it must remain. He could have simply said it will stay. But, he chose to give all the info. Apparently, all the talk about open communication and transparency is not just lip service. This is encouraging.
He is a Spiderman fan. This shows good taste in comics. If he would have gone Superman, I would have many, many concerns.
The Charlotte sports media was there in full force today. However, come the last days of training camp there will be 4 or 5 media types out there with me. Hopefully, the new energy brought to the franchise will also extend to the local media.
I feel a team President will be named soon. Tepper mentioned that he has two people in mind already. I look for it to be done before camp. While this doesn’t have a huge impact on the field, it most certainly has an effect on the gameday experience for Carolina Panthers fans.Agree? Disagree?
