Tonight the Carolina Panthers take on the Buffalo Bills in a preseason exhibition extravaganza. Although technically not an actual game, there is still much to be excited about by watching tonight. Remember, wins and losses in the preseason are meaningless, but individual performances can be the difference between making the team and staying at home. Here are my top three things I will be looking for this evening.
I will be the first to admit I was a bit skeptical when the Carolina Panthers selected cornerback Donte Jackson in round two this year. His small frame being my biggest concern. But after witnessing Jackson in training camp over the past two week my skepticism has turned to excitement. Jackson makes up for his lack of height with the enormous chip on his shoulder. You know what would make me absolutely giddy tonight? Seeing Jackson cover Buffalo Bills receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Now that would be interesting to see.
Tight End Two
Ian Thomas was listed as a project tight end on most draft sites. They said he had all the physical ability in the world, but needed time to really develop into a tight end. Well, either they were wrong or Ian Thomas is a quick study. He is the most exciting tight end prospect the Carolina Panthers have had in many, many seasons. It won’t take much for Thomas to surpass the injured Chris Manhertz on the depth chart, and his climb could begin tonight.
Healthy Cam Newton
Guess what? Cam Newton is completely healthy at the start of the season for the first time since 2015. You know, his MVP season. Cam has looked pretty darn good in camp. I would like to see two or three crisp passes tonight, a touchdown, and a quick benching. Get him in for one series and get him out. Lord knows the current Panthers backup quarterbacks could use the reps.Agree? Disagree? You can sound off right here with thousands of Carolina Panthers fans.
