Pro Bowl voting is now open and once again it is time to take a look at which Carolina Panthers players are most deserving. The Panthers are currently sitting at a comfortable 6-3 record so one might assume a good number of players deserve the nod. However, as I sit here and think about it, that may not be the case.
Cam Newton belongs in this year’s pro bowl and perhaps mention in the MVP discussion. Newton is having arguably one of his best seasons, even surpassing his 2015 season in some ways. The mark of a MVP is how well a team would perform without him. I am convinced that without Cam Newton this team would be lucky to have three wins currently. Bottom line, Cam Newton deserves a pro bowl selection.
Christian McCaffrey is having a break out year that the national media has largely ignored. McCaffrey is a huge piece of the Carolina Panthers offense and integral in what Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner is doing. McCaffrey is currently tied for 10th in rushing and also ranks 19th in receiving among all NFL players. To put it simply, he does it all and he excels in every way. Give him a vote.
These are the only two Carolina Panthers players I feel should be a lock for the pro bowl.
Graham Gano should get a few votes for nearly breaking an NFL record this season. I could see him making the pro bowl based on this fact alone. The fact that he missed an extra point the very next game may not help his case, however.
It hurts me to put Luke Kuechly’s name in this category, but I feel he is not a lock this season. Luke just has not played very Kuechly-like as of late. It is unclear why. Perhaps he is trying to do too much in a confused defense under a new defensive coordinator? Perhaps the loss of defensive tackle Star Lotulelei has had more of an impact than first thought? Maybe a bit of both? Whatever the reason, I just can’t bring myself to say Luke deserves a pro bowl vote this season, and I hate that I can’t say it.Agree? Disagree?
