Despite their most passionate performance of the season, the Carolina Panthers fell to the New Orleans Saints. It is now time to play the youngsters for the remainder of the season and prepare for 2019. The 2019 preseason has begun.
Christian McCaffrey is the Carolina Panthers MVP of the 2018 season. Without him, the Panthers would have won maybe three games. McCaffrey could be the best players ever on a Carolina Panthers roster. Look at what he has accomplished in less than two seasons, and he hasn’t yet hit his ceiling. He is one of the few bright spots of this long sad season.
Luke Kuechly had his best game of the season. Watching him knock Panthers defensive tackle Kyle Love down on his way to making a tackle perfectly encapsulated this entire season. Luke has had to battle other offenses in addition to his own defense at times. We all need to take a moment to appreciate Luke.
Cam Newton’s shoulder appears to be getting worse. At times it looked like he was throwing a shot put yesterday. He did not attempt a pass over 17 yards.
Newton’s strength as a passer had always been the long ball. This made the Air Coryell system he was in a perfect match. A running game with play action deep down field. Now that he cannot make those throws, it has all fallen apart. The offense he is now in is a total mismatch for his throwing ability. The result was a game where Christian McCaffrey had the only passing touchdown. Unreal.
It may be that Cam Newton’s shoulder just cannot take the stress of a full NFL season any longer. The Carolina Panthers would be wise to draft a contingency this year. If they don’t and Cam Newton cannot play a full 2019 season, they will only have themselves to blame. They will have had plenty of notice of the possibility.Agree? Disagree?
