Los Angeles Rams 7th round linebacker Clay Johnston is reportedly headed to the Carolina Panthers. The Rams released Johnston on Saturday with the hopes that he would land on their practice squad. But apparently that is not how things are playing out.
Instead, Johnston has decided to join his father on the Carolina Panthers. Kent Johnston is currently on staff in the Panthers strength program. Johnston tweeted his decision on Sunday.
Johnston, a Baylor product, will also reunite with his former college coach but now NFL coach Matt Rhule along with his assistant coaches.
Aside from the family and coaching connections, this was a smart move by Johnston. These days, there is no better place for a young linebacker to be than on the Carolina Panthers squad. This season the Panthers find themselves thin at the usually loaded position. If there is a team to quickly earn a regular roster spot and playing time in 2020, it is on the Carolina Panthers.
