This week the Carolina Panthers travel to take on the Atlanta Falcons. Recent history tells us this likely a loss, having not won there in several seasons. However, the Falcons could be without Atlanta star receiver Julio Jones.
Entering Monday Night Football, Julio Jones was considered questionable. His night would end after just one half of a single play. The Packers announced that Jones reaggravated his hamstring injury.
Jones has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury for several weeks now. The injury forced him to miss their week 3 matchup against Tampa Bay. That was, of course, a loss for the 0-4 Atlanta Falcons.
Carolina Panthers fans still have nightmares about Julio Jones and his 300+ receiving yards against the Panthers in 2016. It was one of the most dominating performances against the Panthers in franchise history.
The prospect of playing an 0-4 Falcons team without Julio Jones makes this game much more winnable for the young upstart Carolina Panthers. Sitting with a completely unexpected 2-2 record, the Panthers not only look like a competent football team, but perhaps an even good one.
Losing to the Carolina Panthers at home would all but end the 2020 season for the Atlanta Falcons and perhaps force a early season coaching change like we just saw in Houston. If so, Atlanta Falcons may actually thank the Carolina Panthers for putting them out of their misery.
