Drug Testing in High Schools

Recommended Posts

More and more schools are enacting policies that require student athletes to be drug tested on a random or rotational basis.

What are your thoughts on this?

Personally I believe it’s an overeach on the governments behalf. There’s no evidence to support these policies mitigate drug usage. Fraud, waste, and abuse.

We were drug tested when I was in high school. Especially before the weightlifting meets.

I think it's politicians taking the easy route of seeming fix something that sounds important, but isn't that big a deal in the first place.

Also you get the added bonus of any political rival questioning it's need or effectiveness getting labeled as being for kids being hopped up on goofballs.

I'm all for it as long as we test every piss test every single government employee first. Starting with politicians.

Supervised.  We need a camera on their dick with a live stream to the internet when they piss in that cup.

I agree completely. But that will never happen.

I'm surprised more state high school sports organizations, like the NCHSAA, don't look for things.  It may be beyond their jurisdiction although the NCAA does it and they are amatuer athletes.  Seeing if valedictorians/salutatorians having been taking Ritalin, athletes on steroid, hormonal enhancements,  illicit drugs, etc I could see being done where any extracurricular activity/recognition was gained or improved by such drugs.

Just a blanket drug test is a waste.  If there are behavioral problems with certain kids, sure.  Maybe there should be drug testing on those kids in order to get help to the kid and alert the parents of potential problems.

The difference is public eduacation on the high schools level is Goverment ran. Personally I don’t think it’s the governments responsibility. They are there to educate and/or coach. Can they have a greater impact on individual lives than just that? Of course they can but this is just another example of passing legislation albeit on a smaller scale that those who enforce it don’t have to partake themselves.

Does/can someone gain a competitive advantage and thus financial benefit (sports or academic) in secondary education from use at the primary education level?  Are you limiting your argument to simple illicit drug testing?

Yes because these are expensive policies and taxpayers are footing the bill. I believe in Goverment having as much of a limited roll in citizens lives as possible.

We should abolish drug testing kids, those getting government services,  those seeking employment, those on parole.

Who the f cares what people do on their free time.

it's an overreach. just like testing welfare recipients. its purely based on some person who "has a hunch" that they must be doing drugs, so based on the hunch well they've just got to hand over their urine to the state. fug off.
