Bucs have best DL in NFCS

NFC South 2018 position rankings: The defensive lines

Credit the Bucs with going all out this offseason to upgrade their defensive line. First, in free agency they added both Jason Pierre-Paul and Vinny Curry on the outside. Together, they have combined for over 80 career sacks and should radically improve Tampa’s edge-rushing game. They also picked up Vita Vea in the first round of the draft and will slide him in next to Gerald McCoy, who is one of the top defensive tackles in football. They have not played a single game together yet, but at least on paper this Buccaneers group has to be considered the toughest unit in the NFC South.

Pure BS.  More fuel for the fire.  Burn baby burn.

Yes, it does look good. Lets hope the Bucs continue to be the Bucs. The inside of that line could be really really good if Vea is as good as expected.

Curry / Vea / McCoy / JPP

In all honesty not too many 43 lines can compete with that group, as partial as I may be though...

Addison / Poe / Short / Peppers

I think has the upper hand :)

I think we're still better with our top group...but that top group includes Peppers who was a rotational guy last year.  If Pep plays more, we're better.  But if Pep has the same schedule as last season, our line the majority of the time is Addison/Poe/Short/Horton.  Yeah, Bucs might have the upper hand there.

Unfortunately for the Bucs they’ll be leaning on Ryan Fitzpatrick for 3-4 games. By the time Winston gets back the Bucs could easily be 0-4 with that brutal schedule starting out.

MmTeams will pick apart that line with quick passes and RB screens.

I don't know how TBH. JPP, for someone so heralded, hasn't been great the past few seasons. Especially after the fireworks incident. Vinny Curry hasn't had more than 3.5 sacks since 2014 so I'm definitely not worried in the least. Wes Horton had more sacks than Curry last season and he's a run stuffing specialist (and hopefully he keeps trending up).  Vea is brand new to the league so there's nothing to measure him by except expectations. Gerald McCoy is still the best thing and only bright spot on that line.

When is the last time the NFL didn’t hype the Bucs? They’ve been picked to make the playoffs for the last 3-4 years

they're trying to make it a 4 team conference instead of a 3 team conference. Better for ratings.

That D-line does look stout though. As does ours.

This is really just the annual Tampa hype train running full steam.  Every year it seems that people think they have too much talent to be a bottom feeder, so they jump on the bandwagon so they can say they called it if this is finally the year they break out.

As far as the DL, Chuck is right:

1) Pep is still better than JPP

2) KK and McCoy are a push (both are so good that any difference is negligible)

3) As much hype as Vea has received, Poe is what he aspires to be in the league.

4) Curry hasn't done anything to rationalization putting him in any way above a double digit sack guy whose significantly improved against the run like Addison.

Bottom line, they really don't even win one individual comparison on the DL (unless you rate McCoy above KK, in which the difference is so small that it really doesn't matter).  So, by any reasonable standard, you can't say they are better.  They have potential to be good, but to say they are already there is incorrect.

McCoy is good. JPP isn’t who he used to be. Curry isn’t that great. Vea has short arms.

Neither is Poe but I’m still taking Carolina’s DL over TB.

Poe is still a dominant NT. He just didn’t work out in ATL. Poe is 2x the player Star is!!!!!! Don’t spit out idiotic comments like that again.

He hasn’t been dominant since 2014...unfortunately because of injuries I think. Hes better than Star but 2x is a stretch.
