Game of Thrones - Season 8

lots of shows start great.   Problem is working to a resolution/end.  Almost all fail.

Heck, I still maintain the first couple of seasons of LOST was great TV.  Great.  Now, people basically call LOST as a whole a pile of crap.  They don't even get credit for the good they did because of the flaming bag of poop they became.

GOT was on pace to a be GOAT.  Top 3ish. Doubtful at this point it can even be top 10.  Nothing suggests they have a good ending ready.

I think it'll still be #1 for me, even after reading the leaks. I'm probably a little biased because I'm too heavily invested and because I haven't really felt any type of way for any other TV show.

I mean...

I didn't start The Walking Dead until it was like season 4. I binged the first three seasons and then bought into the comics to get ahead.

I didn't watch Breaking Bad until I binged every season in time for the final season, which I watched live.

I have tried several times over the past couple years to get into both The Sopranos and The Wire. I keep falling asleep and just can't get into them.

I binged Lost start to finish a couple years ago on Netflix. I never watched it when it was on TV live.

I binged all of Dexter on Netflix. Never watched it before then.

I binged The Office on Netflix. Never watched it before then.

The only shows that I ritually watch somewhat live now are Game of Thrones, Fargo, The 100, True Detective, The Sinner, Colony (cancelled now) and stuff Netflix releases whole seasons of at once like Stranger Things and Last Kingdom.

GoT was just different for me. Maybe it was because I was such a fan of the fantasy genre, and the fact that I went out and got and read all the books after seeing the premiere episode? I dunno. I was just, and still am, hooked I guess.

Dragons show up to all the fights and get got by a javelin or arrow

I'm just terribly disappointed tbh... so much potential and this entire season feels super rushed just to finish it up.

This could have been a great episode but there were so many plot hole moments it was just... bad.  I hate to say it.

How could Dany have not seen the ships from 2000' in the air???  Even after Rhaegal was killed, surely Dany could have swooped in from the rear or sides, yes, i know the things can turn, but that was just dumb writing...

Why would she just walk up within range of the castle weapons like that?  Why wouldn't Cersei just wipe her out then?

Cersei is an evil bitch, but why would she intentionally piss off Dany like that?

Idk, the whole thing was not good.  They had an extra year to wrap this up right and I think they're blowing it.

I agree, the military tactics over the past number of episodes have been questionable at best.  I know that Jamie has a good background in tactics, but man, everyone else on team North must have never read a book in their lives.

Jamie I'm sure cannot be trusted by Dany, but what they are doing is just dumb.

Rereading some of the leaks, and I'm honestly hoping they are fake at this point. Some of it makes no sense, but so has some of the stuff the past two episodes.

well there are reports they filmed some false scenes.  So there easily could be intentional misdirection at the very end of people leaking things that did technically occur on camera.   But that probably only occurred for small scale scenes most likely.  Easy to get a couple actors together and have them film so bogus stuff.

Guy that plays Sam in an interview (Ellen or Kimmel I think) talked about he thinks he knows the ending but kinda alluded to the fact he doesn't actually know for sure what was real or fake at the end.  But probably the only misdirection they can pull off would be scenes involving very few actors.  Really the only stuff they could keep from leaking would have to be the scenes with minimal cast and crew.

I read the leaks. The one guy, frikidoctor, is as legit as it gets. And I agree with Bronn, if this is indeed how it goes down ... and he's not just leaking legit false filming, it makes very little sense in a lot of areas. This show is going to drop off everyone's Top 10 list and that's a damn shame.

Do you all want me to highlight some of the leaks from the last two episodes? Do you want to ask any specific questions?

Granted, they might not be 100% accurate but I feel like, especially this season, spoiling myself sets me up to not be as let down once I see it on screen.

I read the leaks I think you are referencing. They seem plausible but all the prior leaks I've read were half right at best and extremely wrong at worst so my vote would be let's just enjoy the next two episodes of GoT because they are the last two (or maybe three) that we will ever see.

I hold out hope that there are more dragons. There are four dragons, one large, followed by three smaller ones, on the astrolabe in this season's intro animation. Since we started out with only three, I'm guessing that Rhaegal is truly dead, and that Drogon is the largest one, surrounded by three new, adolescent dragons who can outmaneuver the Scorpions but still burn sh it to the ground. Fingers crossed.

That's a lot for only two episodes, though. I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe this was the case, but you never know!

I kind of always thought it just signified the mama dragon and her three babies.

ETA: It is an armillary sphere, not an astrolabe. Not that that matters one bit, lol.
ETA2: So I just found out that armillary spheres have variations called spherical astrolabes. I stand corrected, lol.

Admittedly so, but check ETA2. My apologies!

I think the Dire wolves should have been shown as MUCH more hostile throughout the entire series. Basically show them as the wild fearsome animals they always were instead of the big dogs that we have as pets. Make them very loyal, as they have been, to the Starks but not emotionally available like dogs that crave our approval. Make them barely tolerate any humans and constantly mean to everyone. Snarling, bearing teeth, just plain intimidating...all the damn time. No one is comfortable around them and even the Starks question their "Alpha-ness" at times.

Then, when it's time for them to be released from their service (whatever magic that bound them to the Starks in the first place)  back into the wild, everyone who owns a dog won't be in their feelings about a stone cold killer predator not getting a pat on the head, kisses and treat for being a good boy all those previous seasons.
