Big crock pot (7.5) or regular (6 qt)?

I just got one of those crock pot/pressure cooker things. Haven't even taken it out of the box yet.

Small pork loin. Can of cream of mushroom soup. Pouch of onion soup mix. Cook about 5 hours on low until it breaks apart with a fork. Use the liquid and some water to make rice.

Yeah, I can make about 8-9 lbs at a time doing this. Omit the coke, add a couple onions, 3-4 jalapenos, and a can of pineapple to make Al Pastor.

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey or Italian sausage)
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 28 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 650 ml jar pasta sauce about 2 1/2 cups
  • 2 1/2 cups water or chicken broth
  • 375 gram box Penne or Ziti or other short pasta (about 4 cups)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella che

  • Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion until browned. Stir in garlic and salt and cook 1 minute.
  2. Add beef mixture, basil, parsley, tomatoes, pasta sauce and water to a 4qt (or larger) slow cooker. Stir.
  3. Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
  4. Add pasta and stir until combined. Cover and continue cooking for 20-45 minutes (depending on how hot your slow cooker is) -- check and stir at the 20 minute mark.
  5. Sprinkle with cheese and cover for 3-5 minutes until cheese is melted.
Slow cooker baked Ziti.  I do not eat meat so I use a meat substitute or add some veggies.  Easy and good. Pinterest is great for finding recipes.

Also, in the winter I love making soup in the crockpot.  Nothing better!

I just got an InstaPot thing. Supposedly, you just add the ingredients, seal the lid, and it makes soup in no time.

We have one of those that we use camping Labor Day weeked camping at Davidson River in Bravard. We had corn on the cob in 10 minutes and made peach cobbler in it also.

I am thinking about getting one of those.  Let me know how you like it.

But also...sometimes great flavor comes with time.
