David Newton *PREDICTION*: Matt Kalil will be released

That's what I'm afraid of as well.  It's not a question of whether Kalil is a bona fide starting LT.  At this point, he is what he is.  Yes, we'd all like to see him gone.  However, you then create another hole to fill.  With 7 million, you get tackles like Chris Hubbard (CLE) or Bryan Bulaga (GB).  Are they even an upgrade?  Lest we all forget, Mike Remmers is still employed in the NFL at 6 million a season.

I want MK gone as much as everyone else, but you have to do the complete analysis.  Williams is going to test the market, and even with the injury, he's going to get offers.  If Williams walks and MK is cut, at that point your game day tackles become Chris Clark (who is also a FA) and Moton.  You have 7 million from the MK cut, and 2 million from Williams to find a tackle, assuming you can re-sign Clark for another year.

The tackle market this year in FA is extremely weak once you get past the top 4 - of which Williams is one.

We are drafting a LT.

That theory is ridiculous. And that’s being kind. We throw more money at him? Because we might not get better? Seriously? Clark played at a similar level for 700k.

Draft anybody. They can’t be much worse. And at least would be cheap. Your not replacing some even average player. How hard is it to find one of the worst LTs in football.

Not to mention he wasn’t hurt or injured....he quit on the team.

Giving him more to suck is incompetent on many levels.

You've got to make a point of keeping guys like Williams and Moton to move forward into having a good oline. Both were doing great before I injury. Add veterans to those young guys.

D line is almost guaranteed to get most of the $ in FA for this team in order for the draft to be BPA as Marty likes it.

I remember when we signed him and someone from the Huddle did a recap of his history with the Viking and if it was any good in him. He was like it was all bad....

looks like it really was all bad

Probably the worst signing since Shaun Gilbert.

gilbert was a trade.

worst panthers signing ever was chuck smith, who never actually played for the team.

Consider that the odds of finding someone as good as Kalil—as low a bar as that may seem—who would cost less than Kalil are less than zero.

This makes no sense. Toss a rock at a couch with three dudes sitting on it and it will bounce off of two who are better than Kalil. If only because they can actually hobble out to the field on occasion.

Was not a trade. Washington didn’t match the Panthers offer.

oh come on

Smith didn't even get any chance to play for us.

Smith was selected in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. For eight seasons in Atlanta, from 1992 to 1999, Smith established himself as an All-Pro defensive end and led the Falcons to Super Bowl XXXIII. In 2000, Smith left Atlanta to join the Carolina Panthers. He ended his career there after one season following multiple surgeries on his right knee.
