Panthers sign Eric Reid to 3-year contract

Recommended Posts

I hope there are plans to bring in a safety who can cover because Reid was good playing in the box, stopping the run, etc but he looked slow in coverage and seamed out of position and got beat a bunch of some big plays.  We still need a safety who can cover the top and help out way better on the deep throws.

Well, PFF says we signed an average to below average safety (#55) to the 10th most expensive safety contract.

Hurney gonna Hurney.

I can, and I did because that’s my opinion. It is great for reasons other than money, in addition to the fact that we have finally locked down a young talented safety in his prime who has already produced compared to someone such as Matt Kalil. I am tired of 30 year old + one year FA signings at safety. You can’t rain on my parade.

Honestly, based on last year's safety free agency, we overpaid. Considerably.

I would have thought if we over paid at the safety position..considerably..it would at least push him into the top 10 safety cap hits.  We are like 2 years out from safeties getting 10-12m a year in free agency.

Our safeties were absolutely god awful last year and they were NEVER in the picture when our DBs were getting beat over the top.  Adams was too slow and Reid was always out of position.

I keep forgetting.  Is PFF the devil incarnate that gets everything wrong, or PFF is the word of God and gets everything right?

Flips back and forth so often here I can't keep up.

You do realize that he is the reason why the market tanked last year right?

Per OTC, total value is in the general range of guys like Jahleel Addae, TJ McDonald and Eric Weddle

Yearly average puts him above Darian Stewart, Tashaun Gipson and Tyrann Matthieu.

Well, there is the eye test, too, and he also wasn't very good based on that.

    • There has been a bill in the Congress of the USA for decades asking for reparations. YC or AM didn't invent the idea. What I find funny is that only Democrats are being asked to take positions on Reparations. How many Republicans sponsored that bill? ZERO. And no, none of them is asked a single question about it. The reparations issue is not a presidential issue (alone). Before the bill even make it to the desk of any president, it needs to go through the normal process in Congress, which will require 100 sponsors to make it to the floor. But strangely, none of the people running for office, who will be discussing this are even asked about it. And you want to tell me ... this is NOT about re-electing a Russian Agent? I really hope you actually understand how politics works in the USA.
    • It's not horrible to discuss. I think it's a good topic. My original post was criticizing stbugs for ridiculing people who are holding out hope that Gaulden might put it together this year. I have no problem with a healthy debate. It's still probably too early to say for sure we made the wrong decision. Sure it's looking that way but as others have said, Gaulden has had a steep learning curve. Let's at least give him another year before we conclude that it was a big mistake not trading up for Reid over Gaulden. Gaulden might prove to be a serviceable starter, or heck, Reid might make an all-pro team while Gaulden gets benched for Colin Jones and then we really f'ed up. I just think we have to give mid-round picks a couple years before we finalize the verdict. You're probably right, but I think if you're a Panthers fan, you're also hoping that you're wrong.
    • Maxed out???  We currently have almost 10 million in cap space and are about to add another 7+ million from the Kalil cut in a week.  By no means are we maxed out, or even cap strapped in the slightest. The issue isn't whether we have the money to sign him (we do), it's whether the team feels his value is worth the price it will take to get him.
