Put this out there in another thread, but so far haven't gotten any takers so I'll repeat it here...

Same as I did last season, I'm willing to attach my name to the statement that the 2019 season belongs completely to Marty Hurney.

Good or bad, Super Bowl or #1 Pick, 19-0 or 0-16, Marty Hurney gets full credit - or full blame - for how this season goes on the personnel front.

Yes, there are plenty of good players left over by Dave Gettleman. That doesn't matter now any more than it mattered when Hurney left players behind in 2012. It's the full roster that wins or loses, not individuals, and that roster is being built by Marty, Ron and the staff, no one else.

I'm a Marty Hurney critic, but I also have integrity and the courage of my convictions. That's why I'm willing to say now that if the Panthers go to the Super Bowl, Marty deserves the credit.

I've asked a couple of Hurney fans to agree that of the season goes bad, that's on Marty too. They backed down. Still wanting to find a way to blame Gettleman and if things go bad I guess. Stupid, and cowardly to be honest, but hey...

So here's the challenge to anybody that wants to take it.

If you believe in "Marty 2.0", say so. If you don't, say so. This isn't a prediction of whether this season will be good or not. It's an agreement that regardless of what happens, no passing of the buck will be accepted.

Good or bad, this is Marty's year.

Accept or decline?

Plenty of good players left over by Gettleman?! WTF are you talking about?! There are only like 4 or 5 of his players still on the team.

Decline. Please goddamn stop all the Hurney vs. Gettleman nonsense. One of those motherfugers doesn't work here and I am tired of hearing about him.

Can we just please move the fug on with what we do have? I will do the same once Hurney 2.0 inevitably gets fired too.

Funny how I keep hearing that all of Gettleman's success was due to players left over by Hurney

So are you saying yes or no?

Good or Bad The whole team, including Hurney, would be to blame.  But to say its totally on him is just wrong.

That's actually what this is about.

Somebody asked me prior to last season to commit to this same idea (their expectation was that we'd have a Super Bowl year). I said yes, not because I knew how to season was going to go but because of ejected lie, that's how it works.

I'm saying the same thing this year, and I challenge others to do so as well.

Say yes now and you don't get to rewrite your opinions at the end of the year to fit what ended up happening. you don't get the credit get them in for success or blame and for failure. It's all on Marty.

But it's okay to blame Gettleman for his bad years, right?

Where's all this enthusiasm I'm seeing in other threads?

No, because he set the roster.  That's his job.

So, not up for it?

Prefer to be able to change your opinion based on the season's result?

You can't say that you are moving on if you goddamn keep engaging in 15,000 goddamn debates at every little Gettleman slight. Continuing to argue and debate people over and over and over and over and over about the same damn thing is not productive even in the slightest. It's fuging annoying. It isn't just you, the rest of the pro-Gettleman zealots and the pro-Hurney crowd are just as annoying. The remaining 95% of this board get pretty fuging tired of it. The thread hijacks, the NEW threads, etc, etc. fug. Just STOP it.

People are always going to have some cheap shots towards Gettleman the same way they did Hurney when he got canned for boning up our fuging roster. Stop getting baited into quibbling because someone sarcastically takes "Gettlemagic" shots. I hope Gettleman is a fuging absolute failure(and he is proving to be that for sure) because he is the GM for another fuging NFL team. fug the Giants.

Stop inventing these goddamn narratives for what is pro-Gettleman and pro-Hurney. We are all goddamn Panthers fans, so we need to be hoping Hurney 2.0 is the same fuging failure that Hurney 1.0 is or we are going to be in the same BS position that we have been for the history of the fuging franchise. Save the fuging Hurney attack dogs for when we fire his ass too. poo, then about 90% of the board will be right there with you. Just goddamn stop being the Dave Gettleman Defender in Chief. He damn sure isn't worth it. Neither of these two are the fuging next coming of Bill Belicheck or Ozzie Newsome.

What you're not getting is this is a way of settling all that.

Commit to it now, and if the year goes well, you can't credit Gettleman. Neither can you blame him if the year goes poorly.

Otherwise, you'll have the usual end-of-year response were people rewrite their opinions according to what happened and act like they knew it all along.

    • There was no sex trafficking going on...100% fake news. Who are you saying makes these "women think this is the only thing they can do"?  You do realize the place was run by some middle aged women, right? Do you care about "the truth"?  Doesn't appear to be the case... https://nypost.com/2019/04/12/prosecutors-concede-no-human-trafficking-in-kraft-spa-case/
    • Where to begin.... So I like that we picked up with Jon clearly having killing Dany on his mind from the beginning of the episode until he finally did it. I love that tortured look of knowing what must be done because it is right and utterly refusing to accept it until the moment it is done because of his love for her. Great acting sold all of that well. The first half was super tense because of it. Also the visual of the throne being melted and what that represented for the entirety of the series. Just a great scene. Then we move along to the time jump (which we know is a few weeks thanks to Tyrion's monologue). I liked that whole scene as well...what I DIDN'T like was treating Jon the way they did. The Unsullied basically strong-armed them into exiling the actual hero of Westeros. He legitimately saved almost every major character and/or their people at some point in this show and certainly saved the entirety of the North by killing Dany. And to top that off, he's a better person than pretty much anybody at this point. And for his trouble, he gets exiled. Now, because he is a good man, he is exiled to go be with people who also love and adore and follow him. So while it is BS, at least it's not a true punishment beyond his choice in the matter being taken. I mean, he did CHOOSE to go to The Wall the first time around to prove himself. But dammit, he should be praised the land over for what he did. Everybody would be bending the knee to a genocidal maniac or be slaughtered by a genocidal maniac were it not for him. Everybody's roles in the new Six Kingdoms, sure. It is fitting. Sure, Bran becoming king is a tad unexpected. But the way he acted about Tyrion proposing it ("why do you think I came all this way?"). I mean, WHAT?! At no point did you ever suggest that the throne was your endgame but suddenly, once Jon kills Dany, you're all about being the king? The ending montage was cool. Sansa going from scared little bird to the Queen in the North is awesome. Arya doing her own thing under the Stark banner is cool (goes from feeling like she'll never fit into her family because she didn't want to be a lady, to renouncing her name to become a Faceless woMan, to reclaiming her name and finding her place within the family, just a great character arc). Jon being treated as basically the king of the Wildlings is awesome. Do wish we knew how much time had passed that they could rebuild the castle in King's Landing so quickly. Or repair Winterfell such that the great hall was so pristine. Or know if they fixed the gap in the Wall that the Night King came through or if they leave it as there are no longer any White Walkers and no threat North of the wall that we know of. I guess I am satisfied in the ending....but it left a bad taste in my mouth about Jon. I felt for him because it's almost a cautionary tale of what happens to good men who remain good. They end up eventually punished for doing the right thing.
