The reason ''cap hell'' never exists is because they keep kicking Drew's money down the line by converting salary to bonus, and then when he retires the bloated money won't count against them.
It's not so much cap hell that will hurt them, it's when Brees retires, ala Brady no matter who you put around him at least offensively it's going to work. In the Saints case they've hit on players in the draft pretty big (Thomas, Kamara, Lattimore) and prior to that Ingram as well, Hayward has been a staple as well so the biggest thing is a lot of their BEST players are on rookie deals except - Brees and Hayward.
If Davenport becomes what they anticipate they'll have him as well on a rookie deal with three years still remaining. Then you look behind Drew and you have Teddy Bridgewater, who doesn't wow anyone, but was a good QB in Minnesota.
So as big of a Panther's fan that I am, the Saints have a model that works for them due to having a HOF QB on their roster. Without Brees all of that falls apart. And if they ever had to pay a guy like Teddy that kind of money same deal.
