Secretary Pompeo says IRAN responsible for ship attacks in Gulf of Oman

I think thats part of it. But I think they were testing Iran’s air defense capabilities. This wasn’t an ordinary drone so for Iran to shoot it down is rather impressive. There’s also virtually no international water around the Straight of Hormuz. The drone was definitely in Iranian airspace so there’s not much leg for Trump to stand on.

Unfortunately if Trump says it was in international then all his supporters will believe it and be onboard with a war.

Regardless of how you or I feel about the environmental crisis is irrelevant when discussing this specific issue.

The military machine marches on regardless.  I got it.  Was just confirming.

War is 100% happening. It is the summer before an election year, and we need to pump more money into the military (and our own contractor's pockets.)

Maybe.

War with Iran won’t be another Iraq or Afghanistan though.  Totally different ballgame on many different levels.

It would essential be the beginning of WWIII.

Iran and Afghanistan were not wars, they were invasions against insignificant opposing forces. Syria wasn’t even a war, it was basically a training exercise for us.

They were all genocides. But Iran would actually be a war.

I can’t remember who exactly it was in this thread but who ever said the only way there wouldn’t massive casualties for our side was if we used nukes, how ironic. Was absolutely right.

Step 1: Trump pulls out of Iran nuke deal, which was working and virtually nobody else agreed with United States.

Step 2: Trump hires John Bolton, an Iran hawk who would love nothing more than turn Iran into a parking lot. Remember Bolton as being the architect of the WMD scam that started with the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Step 3: Bolton ramps up his rhetoric begging for a war with Iran.

Step 4: Trump is hitting Iran with sanctions while nobody else in the world agrees with any of it.

Step 5: Trump continues to bait Iran, sanction Iran and continues to make up narratives that have yet to be confirmed by any intel or military source.

Step 6: With nobody in charge at the Pentagon, Trump will order war....

Step 7: Luckily, the house would shut his ass down quick. But it would be to late, once war starts, it doesn’t stop, Russia and China will get in this one and WWIII will begin.

The significance of it being high altitude is because it effectively substantiates Iran’s claims that it was in their air space.

It doesn't substantiate it at all. The high altitude of this aircraft has nothing to do with where it was.

Key in mind that Iran is a country that goes into Oman's territorial water to harass other military warships and merchant traffic looking to transit the SOH.

Afghanistan was a CT mission turned into something else by NATO.

ISAF's mission was government related. We always wanted Al-Qaida and those who harbored them.

Everyone needs to chill. This whole thing will not end in war.

It absolutely does. If you’re testing potential threats capabilities, and can grab some ISR at the same thing, this is what you do.

That's because when the United Nations, after several long years of negotiation, came up with the CLOS (Convention for the Law of the Sea) treaty specifically dealing with the international waters in and around the Straits of Hormuz, all of the countries involved signed off on the treaty except 2....

The United States and Iran.

https://www.unclosdebate.org/evidence/2032/rights-passage-through-international-straits-strait-hormuz-governed-unclos-neither-us

"One of the principal achievements of UNCLOS was the determination of the lawful width of coastal State territorial waters, and the associated navigational regimes that apply within them. The rules governing navigation are particularly important in international straits overlapped by territorial seas. In the case of U.S. and Iranian rights and duties in the Strait of Hormuz, however, the rules are much less certain because neither country is party to the omnibus treaty. The two states are among the most notorious holdouts, yet they also accept many terms of the Convention — just not necessarily the same ones. The absence of a clear and common rule- book and lack of agreement on the relevant rules that apply to the Strait of Hormuz generates regional instability."

This is conjecture masquerading as facts.
