One Panther Rewind: “The King is Dead”

Recommended Posts

What’s great is everyone yelling “Whoomp, there it is!” after the Mills pick. We should bring that back and keep the keep pounding chant on the back burner for a few years.

I remember being out in Arkansas and watching it with a bunch of cowboy fans. There was a couple panther fans with me, but we were way outnumbered. They were all so confident/cocky and because I had been out in Arkansas that whole year this was my first chance to watch them that year so I didn't know what to expect. It was awesome though.

Grammar police: I’ve already had a few complaints about my spelling of panther in the tweet. You can kindly kiss my Greg Kraken fanboy ass.

That is rather harsh.

I also rewatched the game on youtube last year and noticed a couple things. How inaccurate Collins was and when Deion got hurt, the word "concussion" was never said by Pat or John.

the green bay game is on youtube too

hes just reaching back and chucking the damn thing

and he went to the pro bowl that year because he just happened to be on vacation and a bunch of people pulled out

I was at the game.  Was a sophomore in high school and remember standing in line at a CD store at the local mall that was a Ticketmaster vendor.  There were hundreds of people in that line and they instituted a lottery to decide the order of the line.  Funny how things like that worked pre-internet days.

I remember Michael Irvin on the sideline in a hideous yellow suit.

First season in Charlotte was an absolute fairy tale.  Went downhill from there for a long time.

Was not at the game but remember it well. Pat Terrell was renting the house 4 houses away on my street that year, and when he got back from the stadium that night all the neighbors were out in the street cheering. Was an awesome feeling.

Watched it on TV.  It was my first season as a true Panthers fan and stuck with them ever since.  That defense was so physical, I think Irvin ended up in the hospital for a visit.

Any time we beat “America’s Most Wanted” it’s a good day, but this game was special. Nobody gave us a chance, including the media(sound familiar?). Panthers put an old fashioned ass-whippin on that bunch of softies.

oh that's not true.

the talking heads were nudge nudge wink winking it just because they were the cowboys but no one seriously thought that cowboys team was going to win. They were hollow.

the coolest thing about that team, especially compared to the rivera era, is they didn't give up a second half touchdown ALL YEAR

they were coming out of the locker room frothing at the mouth for blood

imagine ron coaching that team and dropping green and barrow back in coverage, or having minter play 50 yards off the LOS.

I was a Cowboys fan in 1997, moved to NC in 1998, Converted to Panthers around 2003? Yes, the first SB... then, converted more, around 2008. Cowboys is still my second team.

Watched the game on TV with my Cowboys fan roommate, day before the game he was hollering about Dallas was “the greatest team of all time, ain’t a team in the league that ain’t beat..” . Then I corrected him, they haven’t beat Carolina, he couldn’t argue.... he left before the 4th qtr started, I popped in vhs & recorded it, put it on as soon as he got home.....
