Lol they will have a top 10 defense and that translates to wins. But it’s just my opinion based on nothing. Predicting any team’s record at preseason game 2 is a pointless exercise, but still it’s how I read them.

Buffalo had the number 2 defense (yards/game) and were 8th in takeaways.

8-2 = 6.

Buffalo had 6 wins last season.

Thats how it works..right?

There offense won't be that good lol, we made them look like the Patriots. And by the way that will be two losses, there is no way they go 12-2 against the rest of the NFL.

Probably best to move on from this game.

I kept looking for your take on the game.  Could you not get through the tape before you burned it?

Ha!! There’s just too much this week. 3 kids back to school. Volunteer obligations. We peppered in some twitter video observations, but no recap or Podcast this week. (Honestly, there’s just not enough there to analyze). Recap and pod for sure following Pats game.

We always go soft zone in the preseason. I wouldn’t assume that remains the same during the regular season

The reason bad teams seem so good in the preseason is because they have deep talent. With that said the Panthers don't have much talent behind our starting LBs and QBs. Pray we stay healthy in those areas because ouch we are scrub city after that. Also the lack of depth and poor evaluatioud of udfas is typical Hurndog.

And athlete.

A 5'8", 180 pound guy running a 4.4 forty with a 40' vertical is not someone you put a linebacker on. There is no way that LB can cover him - he's too small and shifty.

And no defense in the NFL should know how that is more than us. Smitty wrote the book on being THAT receiver and DJ carries it into practice every day.

You'd think we could scheme against that, just by trying stuff in practice or something...

You'd think. But honestly I don't have an issue with not scheming a special defense to stop him in preseason. Just make sure a CB is covering him. I don't care who. Any CB would be better than a LB against a guy like Cole. It was just too easy. Couldn't fully evaluate the pass rush or safety play because of it.

Of course, the coaches could have been doing that on purpose to really evaluate those LBs in pass coverage. And kept doing it to see if the MLBs could adjust. They couldn't.

Really makes you understand how good Luke and Shaq are.

I think a good part of our defensive struggles could be chalked up to this against Buffalo. There were a lot of guys exposed as not ready for prime time. Sometimes that makes them work harder in training camp. Sometimes it doesn't. It does make it easier to put the old pink slip in the locker, though.
