Brown files new grievance over helmet issue

CTE is the biggest looming issue, but helmets have improved drastically over the past 5 years and can really help prevent concussions, which can still f up someone’s life

sure can, but i don't think that's what its about.  its about public perception.   they don't want us seeing luke on the field like that.  that damaged the whole brand.  the nfl doesn't now, and never has gave a crap about player safety. look at all the cover-ups.  they care about the bottom line, and their ability to generate profit in the future.  its the only thing that's ever motivated the nfl.   they're trying to manage perception.

He's not asking about not wearing a helmet. He's asking to wear a helmet deemed "not a safe". Mind you he has wore this helmet his entire career. Nice try though.

My dude, you can’t just ignore a valid argument. Okay let me soften it for you: drivers cannot pick out their own seatbelts to use in the cars, they have to pick from a regulated list of tested and accepted ones. Sound familiar?

All sports have regulated equipment that players are required to use.

the seatbelt issue was forced upon us by the insurance industry

Trust me, the NFL did not have a prophesy that if they changed the rules for wearing a helmet that some player would have an absolute meltdown over no being able to wear their old helmet, thus providing the NFL with the positive publicity that they have always wanted. You hear how ridiculous that sounds?

Yeah im sure their first interest is money as is everyone, so they are in damage control to mitigate a safety concern that’s been exposed. But the NFL isn’t the only place testing helmets. Virginia Tech has been independently testing these things for 10 years. His old helmet got a 2 out of 5 stars and should have been prohibited from use long ago

There’s already a precedent for players getting a year grace period to wear a banned helmet. Brady won the SB last year wearing a helmet that doesn’t pass safety standards. And Brown’s helmet wasn’t even banned it was just too old, now the league is trying to change the rules and say oh even if you find one less than 10 years old, that’s banned now. It’s ridiculous. Not that I have any sympathy for Brown who is a total headcase.

The one year grace period wasn't just for Brady and Rodgers, it was for everyone. All players were made aware that moving forward, that style helmets would be banned, IN ADDITION TO any helmet older than 10 years. AB found out this year his helmet was too old to be approved. Sucks, but it's the rule and everyone is now dealing with it. He wasn't paying enough attention. He then went out and found a newer year model of his helmet, but all new helmet's submitted must be tested and approved for safety purposes. The helmet was tested, and failed. He now needs to find a new helmet.

He's throwing a fit because he has to deal with a new rule that everyone else has to deal with too.

no they didn't have a prophesy, but this has given them the opportunity to set the perception that its about concussions and not cte.   like all the qb rules, none of that mattered until we had a season without brady and a few others at the same time.

It’s like the Safety belt in cars.

im sure there are people that ride their entire lives with no problem.

then there are the many who die without them.

could I sue and say seatbelts don’t work for me?

how about I refuse to drive if I’m not allowed to go Seat belt free?

sorry AB... Helmet or don’t play.

im still waiting on an answer to what happens if he doesn’t play?

can the team sue him for non performance?

all of the other teams should use this as they cry to refuse any more guaranteed money. You get year to year contracts,.. low signing bonuses.

or bag groceries.

They need to tell him to show up and play or deem him in breach of contract and stop paying him.

I think it's stupid. He should just be able to sign a waiver and let him use the one he wants. This is where kneeling in the NFL gets you. The league is terrified to allow anything that might result in a protest or lawsuit.

His helmet model failed(with the worst possible failure grade) the current concussion standards test. A waiver wouldn’t help him or the NFL in this situation. Because if something happened it doesn’t matter the bylaws or NFL rules. They could be criminally liable. End of story.

Its like if a construction job site allowed an employee to wear their old school hardhat, or use a single point tether. The owner, the contractor, the union(if applicable) and the employee would all be criminally liable in the event of an accident.

This isn’t AB vs. NFL. The NFL would still be criminally liable if they let him play with that helmet. So they are going to win this grievance.

No waiver could help him in this situation without at least one party breaking the law and being liable.

Why? They can literally keep him for 4 years. The cowboys hold all the cards. Zeke has no leverage what so ever, and he’s looking at a million dollar fine if Jerry Jones wants to right now.
