Van Roten mic'd up vs JAX

Recommended Posts

GVR played a better game than the guy he replaced.

Must have been a dozen times at least that he managed to block a second defender, on a single play.  That's hard work there.

I lied the way he called out 44 (their top LB, Myles Jack), and then proceeded to eliminate him from the play.  He and Paradis are forming a tight unit of combo blocking.

I dont know if I want my OL on an open mic. Like.. how secure are these recordings? We usually only see the highlights of their games but somewhere, the entire game is recorded along with our oline adjustments, ext

I may just be trippin here tho

Love it! GVR is now one of favorites. Love the loose energy and good old school work ethic.

GVR is an incredibly smart and hard working player, just physically overmatched at times.

He has been very durable in his time here which is a major positive. IIRC, he is the only Oline who didnt miss a snap last year.

He will never have the physical talent of someone like Trai Turner, but Turner is seeming to become more and more injury prone.

In a position where continuity and chemistry is paramount, he is doing his part.

Hope he does as well this week as he did against Jacksonville. Going to have his hands full with Suh, Vea, and Barrett.

I wouldn't mind having a better option at LG, but I'll always root for a UDFA playing his ass off.

I always root for them, though it's granted they tend to have a short shelf-life.

I think Van Roten is one of those players that the Huddle grossly undervalues because they have no idea how to evaluate o-line play and had already just decided that he’s bad. He’s had to play next to terrible LTs for virtually his entire career.

Van Roten's "entire career" in the NFL prior to the Panthers didn't really include a whole lot of time at guard. He appeared in 10 games with Green Bay back in 2012 and 2013 where he played mostly on special teams. In the two years prior to joining us, he was playing in the CFL.

Van Roten has been a road grader in the run game to those of us who actually pay attention to the oline. He get a alot of crap but he hasn't played bad. As a poster said above he played much better than the huddle's favorite Norwell the other day at no where near the cost.

I wanted Moton at LG with Van Roten as our #1 back-up for the iOL. Not just due to skillset, but because I thought he might be the better player-coach on the line to do so. GVR seems more than capable though and i love seeing him helping bring the young guys along.

I always find it neat when we get a better idea of why exactly a player is valued so much more by the staff than the fanbase.
