3 winning seasons in 8 years (soon to be 9) under Ron Rivera.

Can the Panthers do better?  Without a doubt.

Will they?  That remains to be seen.

And as has been mentioned before, all of them with Dave Gettleman managing the offseason.

Rivera and Hurney just aren't a winning combo.

Why do people keep believing in the myth that Rivera is a good coach?

This got skeptical the moment it mentioned Allen bring linked to Rivera. If that's the case hes as good as gone. Why would a 8-9 year tenered coach link himself to a first year starting because of injury undrafted free agent qb? That sounds ridiculous.

Mediocrity is the way of the nfl.

Since the panthers came into the league in 1995 only 5 teams have a win % at or above 56.25%, which is  9-7.  And all

All of them have had two hof caliber qbs except the Steelers who are the model of stability.

what’s that tell you?

I think hes a good leader of men. However that doesn't mean your a good coach. Difference is one gets a response and rise from young men. They listen to him. Hes well liked. A good coach makes adjustments learns from his mistakes and develops young players. Rivera has never show an aptitude for any of those.

I seriously doubt it will happen but fug it...I want Lincoln Riley.  Throw some ungodly contract at him and make it happen.  He is the best candidate as long as he brings in a great def coordinator

Replace Lincoln Riley with Steve Spurrier, or Chip Kelly, or any number of college coaches who have been the "It" guy, and that is how I feel about bringing in any college coach.  Riley coaches a team that almost always has more talent than his opponents, at least until he gets into post season.  He won't be able to out recruit anyone in the NFL.  And if memory serves, the last college coach to make a successful transition to the NFL without some time as an NFL assistant or coach was Jimmy Johnson.  And that was nearly 30 years ago in the pre salary cap days.  Maybe Tom Coughlin, but even he had to do a stint at Jacksonville before he got to a SB with the Giants.

Why would he link himself to Eric Washington?

Ron is a good, loyal guy. He wants people to succeed, sometimes even to his own detriment.

The Steelers have a solid history of making good choices.

Wish I could say the same for us. We don't.

Yeah, I disagree completely...let me guess you want Dan Campbell.

I completely agree with that narrative. It's not that Rivera in general is a bad coach, it's just time for us to get a better coach for the Panthers organization specifically to achieve our goal of a Super Bowl Win. Or at least achieve consistent winning seasons and consistent playoff runs.

Riveras had 9 years and 3 winning seasons, none of them consecutive. He's not the answer to solving the franchises long term problems with mediocrity, he just continued it.

Had people tell me the same thing when Steve Spurrier was hired as the Redskins coach.  The thought being that he would be a great NFL coach because he was so innovative offensively.  He failed miserably.  The college flavor of the month or year rarely succeeds in the NFL.  Of course, most coaching hires in the NFL end up failing, but the percentages are worse when a coach comes in with no NFL experience.

I have no favorite and I would have to google Dan Campbell to remember who he is.  I just want someone with some NFL experience, so we have a better chance of being successful.   That being said, if it is Lincoln Riley, then I hope I am wrong.

Consistency is all I'd ask from this team. I'd prefer a consistent 8-8 or 97 with the occasional 10-6 or 11-5 over a 4-12 followed by an 11-5 and an encore of 7-9. Not saying you gotta win the division every year, but at least be in the conversation beyond week 11.

Doug Williams won a Super Bowl (42-10 over the Broncos) and was the Super Bowl MVP. The following season he was a backup, was waived and never played another game in the NFL.  So, yeah, I don't really give a fug what Rivera did 4 years ago. Players sure don't get that benefit of the doubt.

The Toronto Raptors made it to the eastern conference finals and their coach won coach of the year and he was still fired.

They brought in a new coach and traded a fan favorite for a star player with an injury history and went on to win the NBA Title last year.

Sometimes you just need to shake things up to finally get over the hump.

I still stand by the fact that everyone should have been let go after 2017 even with making it to the playoffs.

YES, had we moved on from Rivera that year we likely are a much better team now if for no other reason than that a new coach would have had ZERO pressure to rush cam back from injuries
