to add to what i said, he's 1-9 against top 10 teams at michigan, 1-6 against ranked teams on the road, has been absolutely owned by MSU in his entire tenure, and hasnt made the CFP once. did he turn them around? sure, but he's been consistenly beaten out when it counts there.

forgot to include this, that stat was before the 2018 season, he managed to beat #8 notre dame this year as well but got absolutely bitch smacked by #1 OSU 56-27 and lost to #7 penn state as well, putting his record against top 10 teams at 2-11 now. again, good coach and it'd be cool if we got him but it's very unlikely and he's tenure at michigan, while good, has been marred by underachieving.

Jesus, triggered much?

How about you look at the previous two head coaches before him and then get back to me. The problem is they keep remembering the Lloyd Carr championship in 1997 without realizing something rather obvious....it's the only national championship they have had in the last 69 years. In fact, 2018 was the best shot at a Big Ten title they have had since 2004.

So, his winning percentage over his first 5ish seasons? 73. Lloyd Carr's? 75. How about this, he has a higher winning percentage than Dabo Swinney over his first five seasons.

Harbaugh is doing fine, the problem is he is dealing with a fanbase that thinks they have a better program than they actually do.

im not triggered in the slightest, though starting a response off with a "umad bro? xD" isn't a very good start. i never said harbaugh wasn't doing fine, i said he wasn't this untouchable godmade diety that people in this thread were making him out to be. he'd be a good hire but this idea that he'd be sunshine and rainbows if he's here just isn't true, sorry if it came off as if i was trying to frame him in a mediocre light, not my intention. im simply stating that he's not jesus christ himself, its a reputation he's had since he got forced out by jed york.

The only person throwing out a bunch of nonsense about him being a god is you. The rest of us just like him as a coach that has a pretty good track record as a successful coach in the NFL. Of the retread head coaches, he is easily the best option.

Doesn't mean he his necessarily a better option than some of the coordinators that have been mentioned but he is also a more proven commodity than him. The biggest question marks would be if he would even be remotely interested and if his extremely intense personality could be something that doesn't allow him complete control, like he wanted in SF.

If he wants to be the overall final authority, I think he is better suited to sticking with college football.

there were a few posts in this thread that seemed to imply that the second he got here he was going to turn this team into a sb winner. perhaps i jumped to a conclusion? im not really sure, i can admit when im wrong but it definitely seemed he was getting atleast some over the top praise. regarding the authority thing, there's no way he leaves michigan. i guarantee he wouldn't really consider it till he brings home a national championship. the added power, coaching for your alma matter and probably the longterm goal of a natty would keep him around for a while. the entire premise of this is merely an unlikely hypothetical at the end of the day.

Harbaugh wouldn't make my top 25 list, but he'd have no problem finding khakis in Charlotte.

You are reading too much into it. Plus all of us would obviously have a much better reaction than some of the names being thrown around. Mike McCarthy? Ugh. Josh McDaniels??? FUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKK NO.

If you look at Harbaugh's track, if they stick with him they are likely to be in the playoffs and beating Ohio St. I may be vastly underrating Ryan Day.....but....I kind of doubt it. Time will tell.

i might be, it's a problem i have sometimes as a person. won't shy from it. i'd actually probably give up caring about this team if we hired mike fuging mccarthy, dude totally wasted rodgers. people like to say ron wasted cam, and while i personally disagree since ron cant control our revolving door of the offensive line (that's all gettleman and hurney), even if you are in that school of thought, he doesn't compare to how mccarthy underachieved with aaron rodgers. mcdaniels is just, not only is he a snake but the denver tenure was a pure mushroom cloud, and there havent been many coaches who were good on their second "chance". bill belicheck was the exception, not the rule.

Harbaugh is an "exciting" pick, which is what I think the franchise needs, and I think what someone like Tepper would want. Not necessarily saying he's the best match for us, or even the best coach on the market. But I think it would cause a positive stir.

Jim Harbaugh is a big name. In Hollywood terms, he'd be an A-Lister. It would make perfect sense for a small market team like the Carolina Panthers to pick a no-name assistant, or coordinator with a ton of potential and innovative ideas. And he may be the perfect fit, but it's not "exciting." Getting Jim Harbaugh will get us a lot of national attention and energize the fanbase. It may not be the best pick we could have possibly made, but it's a statement. And after a decade of numbing adequacy, I think we need a statement.

At the worst, he's an improvement over Rivera, so it won't be a step back. I'm 100% on-board with it!

If you know anything about college football and recruiting you would know Michigan has ceiling and they are currently at that ceiling. They can’t compete with Ohio State, the gap in resources between the two schools is enormous.

Jay Glazer was asked about Harbaugh returning to the NFL (not the Panthers specifically). This was his answer:

Quote

Any chance Jim Harbaugh comes back to the NFL? —Andre P.

I could see it happening. I don’t know if it will but I can see it happening. The thing about Harbaugh, where he’s good for college, is his spiel is good every three years and that’s it, then he wears you out. Bill Parcells is really smart because he knew that all the ways he would try to push your buttons, all of Parcells’ little stories, they lasted for about three or four years … and then guys didn’t want to hear them anymore. He moved on to the next team. Parcells was brilliant about it, he had the awareness to see it coming.  Jim Harbaugh will also wear a franchise out. At least in college he has a new audience every few years.

I'd Rather have Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer based off his work with a mobile quarterback and analytics

He was great with SF but I still do not want him. I remember reading something about him badly rubbing players the wrong way. Couldn't link to if I tried. Maybe I'm totally wrong.
