[Pauline] Ron Rivera May Try To Steal Marty Hurney Away

Recommended Posts

By one guy! Ron Rivera. No one else wants Marty. He didn’t get a sniff when we let him go the first time. And if he’s so in demand with people who know him, why didn’t John Fox try taking him when he left? Hurney sucks. Ron can have him now.

David Tepper as well

Basically, anyone who has been around the guy

I sure hope Tepper, Rhule and whoever else is brought into the fold will reign Hurney in during FA and the draft.

Hurney sucks after round 1. We have 3 picks in the top 70 currently and can't let Hurney F this up by drafting some DL that he wants to convert to LT. Also in FA.

I am encouraged by what I've read of Rhule's success in recruiting raw but talented (and speedy) players and developing them to compete.  Hopefully, Rhule can help temper Hurney in rounds 2-7 and, between them, the Panthers can come away with one of the best drafts in 2020.

How diabolical.  Ron leaves Marty behind, to act as a fifth column subversive force to screw our draft and exact his revenge on Tepper and the Panthers.  Mission accomplished, Ron then brings Marty into the Redskins front office.

Rivera didn't hire Washington to be DC, he hired Del Rio (who is well qualified)

Rivera was there first hand when Hurney drafted Cam, drafted Luke, turned the Panthers into a Super Bowl team.  Not surprising he'd want him back on board.

I really don’t think Tepper counts. He’s likely sticking with Hurney until his buddy Colbert from the Steelers becomes available. No point in letting Hurney go and then signing another GM when the guy you want will be available in a year. He and Hurney have already done work towards this draft.

He's pretty much king of the Redskins right now, and they have front office jobs coming open.

If we're willing to let him go (and there are definite indications) then yeah, it's possible.

Marty has to feel that the door might be closing here.

But I was told Hurney was just a glorified radio host, a fool who never got any job offers and no one in the league took seriously

Seems like he's pretty in demand by those who know him

In demand by a coach who clearly seems not to have learned anything by his firing and the failures that led to it. Ron saying at his final press conference that “Figures lie and liars figure.” was galling for a coach who rejects analytics but whose inflexibility and predictability over time was so obviously part and parcel of his downfall. Given that his response to being quickly rehired by an owner who has made his franchise a laughingstock of bad decisions has been to set about trying to recreate as nearly as possible the staff that produced rank mediocrity over the past several seasons, I don’t think we ought to be holding up Rivera as some sort of paragon of decision making.

If he hires Hurney away from us, it will only prove he’s stuck in denial about the people running the show here being responsible for the results, and the results are why he got fired. Remember the definition of insanity? Right now, RR is making himself exhibit A.

Because it would be difficult to suggest to your boss who just hired you (John Elway) that you have a guy you want to bring in to replace him?

He didn't ask for Marty when he went to Chicago, either.  Just accept Marty sucks and the only reason he stuck around here is because JR was trying to do his old pal a solid.  Once Kevin Colbert's contract is up with the Steelers, Marty will be gone and Tepper's original choice for GM will be here.  If Tepper was really keen on keeping Marty, he would've given him a contract extension instead of letting him work on a lame duck year.
