David Tepper: "Sometimes you have to tear things down to build them up"

Trading Luke doesn't really have a lot of upside to me. His contract his relatively high but he will probably end up with a lower top 10(projected) salary for ILB's in 2020 and potentially outside the top 10 in 2021. His salary seems high on the surface but that contract(I suspect) will actually age pretty well. CMC, the damage is already done. He's produced and is the type of dual threat weapon that is going to command a top 5 RB contract. And, frankly, it is something we should absolutely not give him. If we can get out for a sub-top 5 contract, I'd love to keep him for 3-5 more years. But, we have used him at such a rate that he is very, very, very likely to experience a breakdown eventually. Ron basically used him like he did Cam, ran him into the ground. Not to mention, if we DO decide to move on from Cam, CMC will be a valuable asset and safety valve for a learning QB. Probably something we would want to keep around(at the right price) to make things easier on a new QB.

Yeah that’s a very good point on Luke and really he’s probably very quickly going to turn into someone Rhule has to lean on to integrate himself into the locker room.

What can we get for a healthy Cam?

Probably some very, very substantial draft capital. The problem is, "healthy Cam" is going to be proven on the field, not on the sidelines. If he doesn't play next season, how do you conclusively prove "healthy Cam?" If he DOES play next season, then all draft capital doesn't matter, because he would be an unrestricted free agent.

I mean, everything I have read from Rhule is that he believes in the power of coaching and finding players who had great measurables but that might be playing out of position or not super productive. But your point is taken.

Yeah, that kind of thing doesn't work that well in the NFL. In the NFL you need talent and productivity to win. Perhaps his "diamonds in the rough" strategy will net some nice mid-round picks but to be successful in the NFL, you need to be nailing your actual high caliber talent picks(1st-3rd round). The statistics bear out that those are your high likelihood starters and the numbers start dropping off drastically after the 1st.

Frankly, the one thing that scares me a little bit about him is that some of his background seems to fit well with Hurney's worst trait.....getting fixated on a low ceiling prospect and overdrafting them.

I’m the opposite I feel like he talks about projecting players ceilings and recruiting off that incessantly, I’m a little worried he’s so confident in his development we find ourselves living off of drafting the project players with high ceiling but low hit rates.

Huddle reading to far into things again. Why do yall want so bad to get a determination on cam Now? CAM IS NOT HEALTHY. Its already been said  that wants the new league year begins cams health will be evaluated and then Determined his future with the team. Am i missing something?

Its just stupid to try and get an answer on things like this in January.

Plus its already been reports that they are not ready to to move on from him. I dont know what else everyone is expecting to hear.

Yeah, I don't necessarily mean "low ceiling" in terms of potential. I didn't say that clearly. I meant essentially what you said, trying to get big time athletes that didn't produce in college and are high bust potential.

We will see soon enough, because we are positioned very, very well in this upcoming draft.

Ffs not every comment is about getting rid of Cam. People read what they want to between the lines.

So is this where Hurney comes in?

He has Great Experience in tearing down a team.

Maybe this is why Tepper is holding onto him for now

Wait, so maybe, just maybe, I wasn't click baiting and trolling when I tried to warn you guys which way the front office winds were blowing after all?

Shocking.

I can’t wait for Saturday for McDaniels to be hired and have his press conference. Whatever happened to that thread

if you're going to blow it up, you blow it all up.

cam/luke/shaq/bradberry...

you keep cmc while he is on his rookie deal and part ways when he's a free agent.

Didn't we just sign Shaq to a new contract?  How are we going to get out of that ?

Didn't trade Wilson or Wagner either.

Wilson was a no brainer.

But they casually let Sherman walk who is now in the playoffs with their division rival while they have made it to the playoffs with basically leftover scraps at running back. Meanwhile Panthers fans are over here jerking it to rushing/receiving records.

can people seriously not differentiate between a QB and a RB/LB?

The former is the success or failure of your franchise, the latter are tag a along positions. If Kuechly is traded, it's only because youre in pursuit of addressing the former.

The difference is that the Panthers have the 7th pick in the draft, and you don't use the 7th overall pick on the latter. The Panthers are stalling to see how draft season starts playing out.

"but mcCaffery was the 8th pick!!!"

fascinating, and it's been meaningless because the Panthers didn't have the former.
