I hope Rhule is great, but the story of how they decided on him makes me cringe.

Wouldn't have happened if McD was "their guy".

I think the way this is playing out shows that McD is a lot more highly thought of as a HC candidate by the fans and the media than he is NFL franchises. Spurning the Colts the way he did last year very well may have caused a lot of people to sour on him.

What I don't like is how Rhule said in his presser that he knew it was Carolina and how wife and son wanted Carolina but then reports come out that he called the Giants to match and they declined. What's the true story there?

Trace Armstrong -----> hey Browns you want McDaniels  for Hc ?  well look at what i just got for Ruhle in  Carolina.. Talk to me

He worked that out for both of  them to get paid

I'm interested  in seeing ( if they do hire McD ) how much they pay him and how it matches up yo the  Ruhle deal..

I doubt he did. His agent probably did though. It's his agent's job to do whatever it takes to maximize his market value. A lot of stuff like that probably happens without the candidate even knowing about it.

Nothing about Tepper screams “impulsive” to me...quite the opposite. How many people in here wanted him to fire Ron and Hurney as soon as he was handed the keys to the franchise?

I added to my post but I'm 100% confident that McDaniels would be the coach of the Panthers if he interviewed on Monday like he wanted to do.

I think I'd leave just to leave if I was McDaniels and destroy the staff and front office on my way out by taking anyone I wanted and could get.

There is some truth to him coveting the Browns job though. Home and all that but still...  it's the freaking Browns.

Hell, if his agent successfully brokered a 7-year $60-70 million contract for a first time head coach...I might just swallow my pride and resentment and hang onto that agent.

That would just be delightful.

Honestly, I think McD is crazy if he takes that job. EVERYONE fails in Cleveland, even Belichick. He can't afford to flop again. I doubt he'll get a third chance if he does.

At the same time if he turns them around and into the playoffs he might just be the GOAT.

Can anyone explain why McDaniels wants the Browns job so badly? Beyond just that it's the last opening for this year?

Edit: must be because he's from a Cleveland suburb

He was born and raised near Cleveland and grew up a Browns fan.

I don't know if they had a "guy". They may have had presumed favorites but went into it with an open mind, which would actually be smart.

But that doesn't mean it wasn't an emotional decision.

I do wonder if Eric Bieniemy had been as charismatic as Matt Rhule obviously is, would he be our head coach right now?

Ahh, it's like Christmas morning for Cleveland fans --  never knowing what present you are going to unwrap.

Always eventually finding out that it was underwear and socks.

And they get new ones every year!
