What happened with Peyton Manning? Didn't the colts release him due to injuries/age and draft luck? I think it will be similar thing with Newton if he doesn't retire.

Well the thing is Peyton went on to appear in the Super Bowl twice, winning one, while the colts got invited to the patriots invitational and sent packing, ultimately luck retired, so looks like colts made the bad decision in hindsight.

Again I’m going to need the FO to really sell me on the positive that comes from moving on from cam Newton if it’s determined he’s healthy, all the speculation and ideas posters have proposed are down right asinine, purposely tanking is the stupidest thing we could do for a unknown commodity, a trade up for burrow is about the only idea that I can see working but will be costly, and every other idea is meh and very madden like

We finally get the offensive minds we have been praying for since Cam got drafted, and now they want to get rid of Cam.

Let me ask you this.  Do you think when Rhule took the job a decision had not been made about Cam yet?

That’s a very interesting question.

How can you make a decision without knowing what state Cam will be in after recovering from the procedure?

I want to go on record that I want to keep Cam this year and draft other positions.

Keeping Cam shouldn't take away from what this team wants to do in the long run unless its tanking for the #1 pick next year. Which again is one of the dumbest and idiotic things this franchise will have done since its inception. The season hasn't even started you dont go into the season with that type of loser mentality. That is just so bad. That's the only legit reason I can see why Cam would be "in the way" of the future.

This post makes absolutely no sense. It is not a stupid thing to do. What do you think the Panthers did to acquire Cam in 2011? You don’t think they cut contracts, cut spending, didn’t extend anyone to try and win? They may have no done it to specifically draft Cam but if you think they went in that season thinking they could compete and win you need to go back and study the history of what exactly happened. Fox was a lame duck and knew it. Hell JR even sent out a letter to all PSL owners after the season and said he apologized and didn’t think it’d be that bad.

We got Cam out of it, unless you’re the browns it’s pretty rare teams with the top picks didn’t try to tank. Hell the Dolphins and Bengals were almost blatantly competing for it this year. Same with the whole ‘suck for luck’ thing the Colts did. There are examples after examples for top picks going back in draft history.

Sure some franchises like the Packers drafted Rodgers at the bottom of the first but if you look into that, they never wanted Rodgers, they wanted another Qb and it didn’t work out. This doesn’t happen often let alone the QB turn out to be a stud. They also didn’t ‘need’ him, they still have Favre. Different circumstances.

People who love Cam so much but say we shouldn’t tank for the next QB make no sense because that what allowed the Panthers to get him.

Why do we as fans, like to imply that the team isn't going to do whatever they can, that is best for the team? And why does ANYONE assume that what the team seems best is going to align with any of think is best for the team.

Dave, I'm not picking on you.

I'm sure I'm not the first person here to bring it up (I haven't read through a lot of the lunacy), but... how do we know if Cam has interest in coming back to play through what seems fairly clearly a bit of a rebuild. I keep seeing everyone speaking about Tepper or Rhule having a tough decision to make but Cam has to decide himself if he wants to be here through this. Is it possible he asks to be traded? Is it possible he retires too? Maybe it's not Tepper or Rhule's decision to move on here... just saying. Gonna be interesting few months.

Am I the only one who gets really annoyed with all the “we need to do this with cam,” and “we” that?

I mean, it’s not like I disagree with your premise, or don’t understand where you are coming from- but the reality is that WE, the collective huddlers, fans, and critics- have absolutely no control or sway in whatever decisions the front office decides.

C'mon man, that's just how people talk about sports. "We smacked the sh*t out of New England last night" - no you didn't. You were sitting in front of a TV. You didn't smack anybody, don't personally know anyone on "your" team, and even the guys who were actually ON the other team weren't really like FROM New England anyway...

All of this stuff is make-believe. You either play along and say "we" or you choose to be this guy:

I get it, but at some point “we” have to realize some things are so far beyond our control that speaking in a collective like that just starts to conflict with logic.

I can understand the “we got our asses beat” thing. Yea because even we as fans felt the ass whooping. But the OP almost sounds like he is trying to convince the Huddle that we all need to be smart about our next move regarding Cam.

like, first of all, who here is advocating something other than a wise move? I don’t recall anyone promoting anything really disadvantageous for the panthers.

and second, I know some people don’t agree with the management of the team, but I don’t think there is any evidence of anyone purposely making unwise decisions, knowingly hurting the team’s value.

lastly; it’s entirely up to the people who are *not* on huddle - and are paid very well to make those personnel decisions.

I say we draft a qb next year, this gives Grier one more year to prove hes not a bum and if Cam doesnt play up to snuff we should get another high draft pick. That 2nd round pick has got to be used on center, I think all the best ones will be there at our 2nd pick and gone by our 3rd. Give the man a pocket! A good center improves the whole line!

another idea on a centre is LSU LLOYD CUSHENBERRY III
https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/lloyd-cushenberry-iii/HjCBm5RLf4
RS Junior, 6'4'', 315 lbs

"This players skill set is a better fit at OG but could play OC in a pinch in the NFL."
