Why the Panthers might Draft Herbert

I think nothing's been the same ever since Gary Larson stopped drawing The Far Side. In fact, if you ask me the world's gone to hell in a handbasket ever since Waterson stopped drawing Calvin and Hobbes. That's what I think.

The Far Side

Maybe Igo should have a section named just that, for discussions having to do with the draft and off season.  Would seem fitting.

I just like Kyle Allen's moxie and think he is better than Joe Burrow. Give Allen an elite running game, a fantastic OL, a historically good defense, an accurate kicker and he can manage the game and lead us to 19-0 every season. I like how he dresses, too. Always classy, like my president. Not out there in some girly hat and doing some jive dance just because he got a first down.

EDIT: We need to at least extend him this offseason. 4 years/120 million should do it.

I won't lie, I laft.

All the Boomers are going to be pushing up daisies pretty soon, so we need to push the ball forward.

The panthers will draft one of a dozen guys. That much is for certain!

just keep making a post for each and you will be able to go back and say you were right!

I don't do that, if this was targeted at me, and the purpose was to generate conversation about something nobody was talking about.   People were trashing Herbert by repeating negative criticisms, and they might be correct--but there was little positive.  In fact, all of the talk was about Brown and Thomas.  I make it clear that this is not what one person thinks, but what might happen and provide reasons.  It was a pretty civil, objective discussion early on, before the mouth breathers found it.

So please don't make baseless, false allegations unless you have concrete reasons for arriving at your assumption. Only someone with weak self esteem would seek adoration from fellow fans on a message board, and only people with no self esteem would consider it their duty to accuse the OP on a discussion board of doing things that never crossed his mind.

For all those who resort to pisssing and moaning about your opinion being different than someone elses, take a look at where Mayock ranked Mahomes.  Keep in mind that this guy was so well respected that after many offers, he is now a GM in the NFL.  Today, Mahomes would go number 1 without question and at least 3 or more number 1's would be offered for him in hingsight.

So nevermind the Kipers, the Walters and all the other knuckleheads making a living (Kiper had Mahomes going 25th) at predicting.  They can only get you in the county, not even the neighborhood, much less the street when predicting these guys and their worth.

For all we know, we could be talking about Herbert being an all pro in 2 years, or out of the league.  So don't take yourselves SOOOOO seriously, cause I sure don't,  even the actual GMs in the NFL get this stuff wrong

On the surface I absolutely get what you're trying to say, but using Mahomes who is a supremely rare talent is not the best example. With that kind of logic being employed you can convince yourself into drafting just about any quarterback. Yeah we get someone somewhere was probably not all that complimentary of Patrick Mahomes as a prospect at one point in time. But that has nothing to do with whether or not Herbert will be a bust or a franchise quarterback.

If it holds true that we pass on qb early I can see picking up Anthony Gordon on day two for the steal of the draft this kid is just as good or better than burrow Especially with his ability to throw from different arm slots I think he had over 5,000 yards with 74% Accuracy. It cool story hopefully he stays under the radar.

The notion that Allen is as good as most QB's that will be available at 7 is certainly up for debate but does not speak well for those QB's based on Allen's performance last year. Whether we have a competent coach at the NFL level remains to be seen. I'm not dissing Coach Rhule, it's simply not a supportable assertion at this point. I would argue strongly that last year's record plus retirement of Luke and to a lesser degree Olsen so far this offseason, with possible further departures of key players to come, makes the notion we have a competent team an extremely dubious one.

I think it's possible Allen could game manage to a winning record, but I don't think there's a lot of existing evidence to support the notion that seems likely. His ability to win eroded significantly as the year progressed and it is hard to make the argument at the moment that the roster around him has improved. If anything so far it has gotten dramatically worse just by losing the greatest MLB of his generation to retirement.

He played 13 career starts, half of them in the middle of a franchise meltdown.   It’s just common sense.   No one looked good in the second half of the season, ok?  Except the obvious few.

Yep, professional talent evaluators - even really good ones - are wrong quite a bit. There's a never ending litany of variables to try to consider when projecting a prospect to the NFL level and that's why there are busts and steals in every draft class and there always will be.
