For those who want to tank for Trevor Lawrence?

Recommended Posts

What a moronic post. I don’t knowing we’re keeping Cam or not but signs point much more strongly to we are than we aren’t. And we’re not tanking for Trevor freaking Lawrence one way or the other.

Not going to happen. You don't build a winning culture by tanking. Even if we lose a lot of games we are not tanking. Tanking is done on purpose. It's not who Rhule is.

Its 100% happening.  Its being billed as "the process" instead of tanking.  That is what Rhule is known for the building of cultures and winning organizations.  Christ Tepper in so many words already said he is okay with it on the short term.

It's not what Rhule is...it's what Tepper is.  I don't want to tank.  Life is too short to tank.  I do think Tepper wants too though.  He sort of made some comments that made me think he was going to tank.

Maybe. If Tepper does that, he will have lost the team, his HC and the fans. Definitely this fan.

That still means we are going to be a bad bad team whereas the other poster I quoted thinks you can just do a complete overhaul and miraculously be a playoff team

Was just answering your question....and yes, I fully expect us to be a bad team, like really bad unless some MAJOR things change over the next 4 months, and that would mean leveraging the future on the now...and that rarely works in the NFL.

How do we know that ?

I don't think people understand how hot Joe Brady was and he basically gave no other team besides us consideration.

People are acting like Joe Brady is Phil Snow

How do you tank for Trevor Lawrence if we are bringing back Cam Newton?

Surely Rhule/Marty know this. This is why im not buying Cam Newton coming back. They want a rebuild and preferably with a young QB. They can't rebuild with a 31 year old Cam Newton who may be broken physically. If the goal is to get a top QB next year that wont happen with Cam Newton as starter. Cam will not allow us to be the worst team in the NFL, it's not in his DNA.

Just keep that in mind for those who think keeping Cam and tanking for Lawrence is possible.

If Cam Newton comes back, he won't be babied this time. Likely will play 3 preseason games 100% practice participation (no more sitting out for rest is the norm), and be expected to play 16 regular season games. Cam will get hurt in 2-3 games if he is truly injury prone, I'm not worried about starting 5-3 and him getting hurt. People call me stupid, but I'm not 100% Cam will beat Kyle Allen out at camp, if he comes out and is reacting poorly to contact and can't throw, you might see #7 thrown out there and Cam shipped off. We would likely go 2-14, but it is all the same. I'm at this point in favor of keeping Cam as long as Hurney, Cam, Rhule and Brady all agree you're going to play until 40 and be a pocket passer crap stops. There is honestly not much difference from 2017-2019 Cam we saw, Shula just let him run more often to make up for the bad arm. How did we beat the Vikings in 17? Cam on a designed run took it 45+ yards, Norv Turner comes in and gets creamed. Mike Shula sucks, but we downgraded and it was painfully obvious. As bad as Shula was, he had us dancing in 2013,14,15,17. Norv Turner:0

McDermott went to Buffalo and his tag line has been "Trust The Process". They didn't tank. Process is not another word for tanking. It's a wide-net new catch word for changes.

Ah, I'm not going anywhere. Been a fan through Collins, Seifert, 2010. I just won't be a Tepper fan any more.

I'm not interested in tanking for anybody.

The whole idea is honestly kind of silly.

About this we both agree. If you ever played competitive sports the idea of losing on purpose never crossed your mind. Or at least it never crossed mine and I doubt I was alone.

Or... Norv Turner wasn't the problem for 2 years, but rather our amazingly bad defense.

Its not "losing on purpose" its creating a structure where you are putting players in a position where its highly unlikely they win.  Playing young guys, cheap FA's etc.  Nobody is saying or has said "lose on purpose".  But one can easily see that they are tearing this bad boy down and starting from scratch.

I'm not convinced Cam Newton COULDN'T throw more then 10-15 yards in 2018. Ask Minnesota fans how happy they were when he was fired, I recall some on this board warning us about him while we laughed. The largest example for me was the 2018 NO game in Carolina. we were 6-7 and we HAD TO WIN to have ANY chance at getting into the playoffs... Cam is CLEARLY struggling to throw, Norv insists of keeping a QB who is struggling throwing screen passes and 5-10 yard Slants. DESIGN QB RUNS AND RUN OPTION PLAYS WITH CMC!!!! All we literally needed to win that game was 17 points, Kyle Allen likely would've won it if pressed into duty. Norv's failure was his insistence on not letting Cam be himself, the limited runs he had this year (The first drive vs Tampa was a first down, but weather delays caused it to not be reviewed properly). You also cannot convince me Cam himself told Norv Turner and Ron that he did not want the ball on 4th&1 with the game on the line because "he hurt too much" after running for a 1st the beginning of the game.  Both those two are tools, you can't tell me Cam hid the injury from them, but then they knew about it to not want to QB sneak in danger of a 0-2 start. Let's be real, if Cam's foot is hurt, him running a qb sneak isn't making it any worse, it's already broken, all he had to do was fall forward. Even Norv kept going on about making Cam "a more pure passer," he is a dual threat QB and always will be.

And where are the Vikings after Norv? Pretty much the same exact place.

Our offense was better under Norv Turner. That doesn't make it a great offense, but that doesn't make him the problem either. Give him the defenses Shula had and we win more games.

It is very possible to believe that Norv wasn't perfect, or even great, and also understand that we lost more games because our defense was trash than we lost because our offense faltered.

I mean really, look at the scores against the Panthers faced the past 2 seasons. Blaming the losing record on the hands of the OC is laughable.

No one is tanking for Trevor. Everybody said that the Dolphins were tanking for Tua. How did that turn out? Justin Fields is good but he’s no where the QB of Tua if Tua was 100% completely healthy. I will not be surprised if Panthers send the farm for Burrow, Tua or even Herbert.
